Sidewalks and ramps at this intersection were demolished and rebuilt. However the ramps were placed much farther away from the intersection making them essentially useless as people will simply step off the curb to take the shortest distance.

Please take a look at all the other sidewalk ramps in the neighborhood.

Hi. I came home after one of the storms and my trash can was down the street and the hinge is broken. I think it's actually someone else's can because it's much filthier than mine so maybe I can get a new one instead of a repair. The number on it is 07001067.

My address is 409 Natures Way. Tomorrow is trash day so I'll have it out by the street and will just leave it out until y'all have a chance to come out.

    Thanks for your help.

This is just a suggestion. I was thinking on my drive this morning that a very low cost improvement to the traffic at the intersection of Martin Rd and Zierdt Rd would be to reallocate the southbound *straight/right* lane to a *left/straight/right* lane. Currently the straight/right lane is usually empty because the left turn lane is so backed up that no one can get into the straight/right lane. By making the straight/right lane a left/straight/right lane, I would think the traffic would clear faster (especially since the Arsenal/Gate 7 can accept 3 lanes and allow folks to turn quicker. By the way, I turn right so I'm not trying to improve things for the "left turn" people at the expense of the "right turn" people :)

That got me thinking that you could probably do something similar for the eastbound lanes by making the left turn lane into a left/straight lane. That left lane is also empty in the mornings because the straight lane onto the Arsenal is usually backed up all the way to the Subway preventing anyone from turning left for 10-15 minutes. Making both lanes available to go onto the Arsenal would speed up the flow and allow folks who need to turn left to do so quicker.

Maybe this won't work but please avoid responding with anything about the ongoing Zierdt Rd construction/widening. We all know that's not going to be finished anytime soon and it's frustrating to hear the city use it as an excuse not to make needed improvements. No offense intended here.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Basically a ditch has appeared all the way across the road here. I hit it a few minutes ago driving LESS THAN the speed limit and it jolted my car so much the stereo rebooted!

    UPDATE:
It is now 26-October (16 days after initial post). The ditch has been filled in with gravel but with every rain, some of the material washes away. I slow down to about 5mph when approaching this ditch mainly because I never know how bad it's going to be. Sections of sidewalk have also been removed and a large amount of gravel has been dumped on other sections of sidewalk preventing strollers, wheelchairs, etc from accessing. This area is a mess. There are over 500 homes in this neighborhood and I think I speak for everyone when I say we'd like to be able to access this area again.

Apparently Natures Way will be closed Thurs and Friday. Sign looks...unofficial. Just checking that it's legit and curious to know what's causing the detour. Thanks!

Traffic Engineering usually has a pretty good handle on this sort of stuff but I wanted to bring something to their attention that may have been missed. I know the Zierdt Rd widening and Towne Madison projects were developed separately and probably around the same time so they probably didn't communicate with each other. There needs to be a crossover from Town Madison for vehicles to go north on the new section of Zierdt Rd.

Would be nice if that were handled now instead of later when there's traffic using the new northbound lanes of Zierdt.

I appreciate how attentive Huntsville Water Pollution Control has been on this issue but the smell is back (has been for a while). Seems to have gotten worse after AT&T buried new fiber a month or so ago but I can't swear to that. Most concentrated between my mailbox (409 Natures Way) and the mailbox at 411 Natures Way. My neighbor across the street says it smells even worse in her driveway at 406 Natures Way.

Huntsville Life circulars are ending up in the Betts Spring Branch wetlands leading to Wheeler NWR.

Delivery cars throw these circulars so close to the road that a little wind or rain blows/washes them into the road where no one picks them up. From there they wash into the sewers which lead to the wetlands in our neighborhood (see photo).

I have called the hotline listed in the Huntsville Life circular and requested they stop throwing their paper in my driveway. This has been ongoing for MONTHS and they continue to drop what I consider trash in my yard. If I did this I would most likely be fined then arrested, right??

Please make this stop. I will start reporting these to the 53-CLEAN hotline from now on, as well as, the non-emergency HPD as litter. I will provide a license plate number of the offending vehicles.

While I appreciate Traffic Engineering's attention to a couple complaints here on SeeClickFix, they really should do some research before making changes to the timing of this traffic signal at Martin and Zierdt.

Traffic is now backed up on Zierdt well north of Natures Way. I agree that the timing needed a slight adjustment because Martin Rd was backed up eastbound but this is ridiculous. Now there is NO WAIT on Martin but it took me 20 minutes to get through the light from Zierdt.

Traffic dept, please get it together. The blinking red light that lasted for two months and now this.

  • 2301 Zierdt Road Huntsville, Alabama - Huntsville

I sat at this intersection for 20 minutes of what is normally a 10 minute commute.

Traffic dept, please respond with more than just "made repairs" like y'all normally do. A bit of a kick in the face if you ask me. I think we deserve a better explanation as to why this problem persists after almost two MONTHS.

The light at Martin and Zierdt has been flashing red on all four sides the last two days. There was a cop directing traffic yesterday so I'm guessing the city is aware. The traffic is backed up to Edgewater on Zierdt and past the Subway on Martin. What's the deal?
  • 736-788 Martin Road Southwest Huntsville, AL 35824, USA - US Congressional District AL5
I've marked a place on the map here...at this location going west the speed limit drops from 50 to 45. However, going east there is no similar sign raising the speed limit to 50mph. Not until you get to the Subway does the speed limit finally increase.

I continue getting Huntsville Life circulars dropped in my front yard even though I've followed their instructions to "cancel". I've called and emailed.

In addition to having to pick these things up every week, they get washed into our gutters, culverts, and neighborhood lake.

Is there a penalty for them doing this? I know I would probably get in serious trouble if I went around throwing garbage in people's yards. Can you refer this to the Green Team or other appropriate agency? Thanks.
