139 Sherman St Portland, Maine - PortlandThis is now the fourth collection day, though I know one was cancelled because of the storm, that Christmas trees have failed to be picked up in Parkside. My call to the Department of Public Works was meant by someone who was incredibly rude and told me that I just needed to haul my own tree down to them as they probably wouldn't get around to it. That is, of course and obviously, unacceptable. I already made a seeclickfix about this, but for some reason, whenever I try and post an update, it says that I am blocked. It would be great if DPW would commit to picking up these trees at some point, as they are obliged to do.

Snow Removal Archived126 Sherman St Portland, Maine - PortlandThe owners of this building have not removed snow from the sidewalk during the winter for years, and the city needs to take action. Despite everyone else diligently cleaning up after storms, the building at 126 Sherman St renders that whole side of the street impassible for a lot of people, ever since the first snowstorm of the season. This problem predates the building's current state (it seems to be unoccupied and something is posted on the doors). In any case, the current owners are still responsible and the city ought to start enforcing and fining to bring them into compliance. The attached photo is from today (Monday, Jan 15th). Thank you!

Trash/Recycling Archived96 Mellen Street Portland, Maine - PortlandWhile walking my dog at about 7:50am this morning, a recycling crew working up Melon knocked a bunch of recycling out of a bin while picking it up and did not bother picking it up to put back in the container or in their truck. I believe this is called 'littering', as it's now just sitting there and certainly won't be collected by the garbage crews as it's not in a city bag. This will just end up blown into bushes, run over in the street, turned into basic garbage, when all the crew needed to do was take a moment to correct their mistake.

Street Signs Archived29-39 Deering Avenue Portland, Maine - PortlandThe street sign on the eastern side of Deering, which marks the "no parking zone" on the corner of Sherman and Deering is missing, I assume taken down by a snow plow. Now, cars regularly park all the way to the corner, which is a serious safety hazzard; when cars are parked there, it's impossible for cars attempting to turn left onto Deering from Sherman to see oncoming traffic heading up the hill -- I've already had a few very close calls, and seen others have them as well. You have to pull all the way out into the lane of traffic heading down the hill before you can know if you're proceeding safely, which is its own problem (considering how fast people drive on Deering Ave in the first place!). Please replace the sign ASAP. Thank you!
