Seeking Volunteers

Portland is seeking volunteers to shovel snow for frail, elderly residents

Updated on
The Office of Elder Affairs/Age-Friendly Portland is seeking volunteers willing to shovel snow for frail, elderly Portland residents this winter. Here's how it works:
  • Volunteers are asked to shovel walkways, steps, and in some cases the stretch of sidewalk in front of a senior citizen's home. (No driveways)
  • Once a volunteer is assigned to an elderly resident, they are expected to shovel for them after each storm
  • Recipients of the service are age 65+ or disabled, and express a financial hardship
  • This is a volunteer "neighbor-helping-neighbor" service, so no payment is ever requested or accepted.

FMI or to volunteer your time, please contact Linda Weare 207-541-6620 or Isw@portlandmaine.gov

THANK YOU!!
