Red Tide Fish Kill

Updated on

City staff, County resources, and the County’s contractor are continuing to remove dead fish from offshore, near shore, the beaches, and the Intracoastal. We are continuing to add resources to the effort and will provide periodic status updates through www.pinellascounty.org and https://www.facebook.com/PinellasEnviroNews/

It will not be possible to send the contractor for small amounts of fish removal in canals, the Intracoastal, or open bay waters. If it is a small amount and it can be removed, place the material in a trash bag, seal it, and dispose of through normal trash pickup. Even a full trash can is fine. If odor is a concern, double bag it.

For estimating purposes look at a 10x10 area, 100 sq Ft, count the fish, how many? Now take that number and ballpark the total.

If it is significant, 100’s or 1,000’s of dead fish, you may submit a report through Pinellas County Doing Things App or on our website http://www.pinellascounty.org/reportanissue/ and we will schedule the contractor to inspect the area and take necessary action.
