Description

Please add dedicated/pocketed left turn lanes and left turn signals on West Side Avenue, turning onto Sip (both directions of travel). West Side is a major N/S thoroughfare and intersection is a bottleneck due to left-turning vehicles waiting the entire light cycle to turn. Vehicles back up as far as Glenwood Avenue (0.3 miles). This congestion generates unnecessary pollution from idling cars, and can be dramatically reduced with more efficient design and signaling. An example of this working at a similar intersection is Baldwin/Pavonia where left turn lanes are accommodated by keeping street parking away from the corners and set-back left turn lanes. Images attached.
