Description
The bike lanes on 14th St NW have been gradually extended from downtown up to north of Columbia Heights, but there is no bike lane on 14th St between Florida Ave NW and Columbia Rd NW. It just inexplicably disappears for about 0.5 miles, and it happens to be on the scariest part of 14th St (at least for cyclists). Cars go up and down that hill at very high speed. The northbound cyclists climb the steep hill at walking speed while cars pass close by on the left at 30+ mph. Cutting over to 11th St (which has a bike lane for this stretch the hill) is not a good solution, and many cyclists aren't aware that 11th St has a lane. Please connect the lanes on 14th between FL Ave and Columbia Rd.

Thanks for the request. It is on our list for installation, however, this will equire altering the existing roadway configuration. Whenever we make these types of changes we are required by Federal Regulations to conduct a traffic and environmental analysis. Due to the time-consuming nature of this work, iti is likely hat bike lanes will not be installed until 2014 and possibly 2015.
