While it is an improvement to not have any vehicles parked around the actual circle, we are now very concerned that safety vehicles - such as snowplows and fire trucks - cannot make it around the right turn just before the circle.

Good Afternoon,
It is understandable why there are concerns about space along Overlake Park. Overlake Park is approximately 22 feet wide, and a narrow street in the City of Burlington is any street which 28 feet wide or less. However, parking is only allowed on one side of the street, this leaves 14 feet of effective travel width which meets the Burlington Fire Department minimum of 14 feet of effective travel width. For plowing, DPW Streets crews have the ability to post “No-Parking” zones on individual streets to complete any work, this is an additional tool to snow parking bans. Given all of this information, DPW Staff would not recommend additional no parking zones on Overlake Park at this time.
Ultimately, the DPW Commission makes the final decision on any traffic regulation changes. You can discuss this issue with the DPW Commission at their next meeting on Wednesday, January 15th, 2020 at 6:30 pm. This meeting will be in our Front Conference Room at 645 Pine Street.
