Description
I know that this has been an issue for a LONG time, and that there are sensitivities because the road is (I think) actually maintained by the abuttors - BUT - the situation on Shore Road has just gotten crazy, with potholes that seek to do substantial damage with every passing car. I understand that the neighbors don't want people speeding along Shore Road, but it is a public way, and its current condition is extreme, and in need of immediate repair. I didn't think that anything could be done before spring, but then I saw that Waterside Lane at Freshwater Cove was just recently repaved, so I again have hope that something can be done before spring Thanks very much.

Contrary to popular belief, Shore Road is a private way. It is not and never has been a public way.
The condition of the road was beyond minor repair allowed by the Gloucester Code of Ordinances and Mass General Law. The abutters pitched in to have the road repaired with the exception of one abutter.
The City offers a paving program for private ways where the abutters petition the City to manage a resurfacing project at the cost of the abutters. Which they have all been advised of.
If you would like to discuss this further you may reach out to Ward 5 Councilor Sean Nolan at 978-375-8381 or the Director of Public Works, Mike Hale at 978-325-5600 .
Waterside Lane is a public way not a private way.
