I was going to raise a see click fix issue about this. I was going to say there should be a guard there. I didn’t even know there was supposed to be one there because nobody is ever there and I walk to work all the time.

This intersection has always had a crossing guard. She was terrific at directing traffic and pedestrians. A few months ago, she disappeared and there was a replacement on and off for a weeks. The lack of a guard at this intersection is unacceptable. Between the school, cars turning left from Marin to Grand, and commuters flying through yellow lights, someone is bound to get hurt. Whats more rediculous is theres a guard one block away at Marin and York, which is far less dangerous given York is one way.

Please place a permanent guard back at Marin and Grand. At a minimum, prioritize the more dangerous intersection and reassign the guard at Marin and York to Marin and Grand until a permanent guard is in place. Thanks.

The reason why the terrific first crossing guard isn’t there is because she was clipped by a car!!!

I call the mayors action line about this weekly. Latest (2 days ago when I saw two cars plow through the red light to turn left onto Marin from grand causing 5 people - 2 of them in strollers - to jump back screaming) call, I was told that the office in charge of crossing guards has a shortage and is working on filling them. Also that perhaps the mayors office would suggest a police officer for the location in the meanwhile.

I suggested that the guard on Pacific and grand, who seems to have very few people crossing, might be better places.

It’s a terrifically dangerous intersection every day!

So if I understand this correctly, the intersection is so dangerous that it’s not even safe for the guard who was clipped by a car. The city, knowing all this, can not be bothered to solution this temporarily with a cop or even another guard from a less trafficked post ( a cop would obviously be the better solution).
This to me is is pretty much the definition of gross negligence.

Just went by intersection of Bright St and Jersey Ave and there are 2 crossing guards there. One standing on the corner hanging out and the other directing pedestrians. Doesnt seem like a staff shortage to me. Any reason one couldnt be moved to Grand and Marin?

I was going to open a request for this. The new guard was on duty for less than two weeks and it is now a month or more that there is no guard. This is a n Incredibly dangerous intersection for pedestrians and cars alike. A guard to police officer should be assigned. This is unacceptable especially since the mayor has a policy for pedestrian safety high on his docket/list of accomplishments.

Hi Theresa. Any idea when a crossing guard will be placed back at this intersection? This is by far one of the busiest intersections on the Grand St corridor with heavy commuter, pedestrian and student usage daily. Thanks.

I did send over tot he Crossing Guard unit (201-547-5669) (201-547-5707) I am awaiting an answer from them.
