Are spots on the street painted as to where one spot begins and another ends? In looking at picture there is another car cut off in image to left. How do we know which car came first? Do you have legal proof a small vehicle (like smart car) wasn’t parked in front of white car? Oh wait I see it’s a BMW so I guess that’s enough proof of guilt??
Pictures like this are a disservice to See Click Fix. No crime here and picture proves nothing. No matter how much this annoys you there is no crime. What if someone is first to park after street cleaning and other cars align differently?

Is the "industry standard" you mentioned a legal requirement by the City, County or State government?
How come we have metered parking meters spaces (some are painted & some are not) that are less than the 22-25 feet standard you cited? If we have shorter painted or unpainted meter parking slots - how come we cannot apply the same length to city non-metered parking spots? By doing so, we can help alleviate the parking problems thru out Jersey City. Who can we appeal to about this request? Should we elevate this appeal to the Mayor's office? Thank you and hopefully we can get some reasonable response on how we can help the residents of Jersey City on this big parking problem.

Hi - Happy New Year. Sorry for the delayed response. The industry standard of 22-26 feet is cited in the Federal Highway Administration's Manual for Uniform Traffic Control Devices, which provides national guidelines for traffic signage, markings, etc. You are correct in that metered parking in some areas of the City are 20 feet, as it better fits the needs of the City. However, striping out parking spaces on residential streets generally reduces the parking capacity with some vehicles only occupying as little as 16-17 feet, especially with compact vehicles and smart cars, or at best, meets the existing parking capacity. Even so, it would be extremely costly and difficult to maintain striping of parking spaces on +220 miles of roadway throughout the City. We understand that parking is challenging. The City will be conducting a citywide parking study to optimize the existing parking supply and understand community-specific parking demands to com up with strategies to manage parking. We will be working with the Council to kick off this project soon. Hopefully, I have provide answers to all your questions. Should you wish you request further action, please reach out to your Councilperson.
