this whole area is a cluster especially right around 8 am.

Parent drop their kids off while waiting at the stop signs! The school needs a dedicated lane for drop off and pickups that’s not in the parking lot.

You will not get a resolution by attacking the guy trying to maintain the situation for parking in a legal spot especially when he’s the one issueing tickets on behalf of parking enforcement.

The no parking signs on walnut and willow (escpeciallt the corner of walnut and willow) need to be more prevalent.

The real issue is the school lacks the requisite infrastructure to facilitate parent drop off. No parking signs will not stop this problem! Please tell the parents of the school to stop thinking they are free to utilize public road ways as they please! This is the real issue at hand.

Sorry no I am not a civil engineer nor a city planner. One thing to do might be station an actual police office in this area and have them observe

I think it would be very helpful to even have a person there who can catch parents as they park and inform them of the parking laws. It's much better to solve this through educating people versus penalizing them, in my opinion anyway.

This same parking enforcement officer spent much of his morning ridiculing kind people for doing the exact thing that I reported him doing above. Saying that parking illegally is a safety issue, blocks traffic, makes it harder to see children, etc... while literally at the same moment doing the exact thing he was yelling at everyone to stop doing... that is the epitome of hypocrisy. Is this reality? Am I the only one seeing how ridiculous this is?

I stopped by the parking enforcement office this morning and talked to John King about this issue. He said that parking enforcement can park anywhere they want to park, anytime they want to park there, and safety is not a concern of theirs when doing so. They only care if someone else is breaking the law and causing a safety concern, not if they themselves are breaking the law or causing a safety problem for the community. This is because they have no oversight and can make up their own laws. He specifically said that nowhere in the law does it state they are allowed to do this, but they do it anyway because they can get away with it. I will be contacting the city attorney's office regarding this and will be filing a lawsuit against the City of Burlington if this is not rectified immediately.

Don't park in a known no parking zone and you wont receive a ticket. At least parking enforcement is enforcing this parking situation. It is largely ignored on Starr Farm Rd.

It's only a futile endeavor if you throw up your hands a give up without trying. Parking Authority is out of control and needs to be reined in. As no one else is going to take care of that, I will take this on for the betterment of our wonderful city and its well meaning inhabitants.

This particular issue is not about parking enforcement giving people tickets for parking illegally. Fine, go ahead and do that. But they should absolutely not be parking illegally while issuing parking tickets for parking illegally. That is the problem I have with this. They are not above the law, but they think they are, and that needs to change. Please show me where in the law it states that they can park illegally whenever they would like to do that without receiving a fine. It's a double standard and it sets a terrible example. They should be ashamed of themselves.

These people fine city employees as much as they would their own grandmother. Constructive idea would be to clearly mark the distance away from a fire hydrant, I once parked within the curb but clearly to close to a hydrant as a city employee they ticketed me anyway, the city also refused to wipe the ticket clear. Clearly label these things and make sure your metermaids are not trying to fill a quota

After the unfortunate conversation I had with John King earlier today, I contacted Jan Wright who is the Deputy Chief of Administration (from my understanding, she oversees the parking authority among other things). I explained my concerns about the illegal parking by parking enforcement employees. She fully agreed and said she is going to have a chat with the parking attendant involved as well as John King to set them straight about this. She pointed out that this is in fact a situation where the parking authorities should lead by example and are not above the law. She also noted that it sometimes takes a phone call such as mine to highlight areas needing improvement and thanked me for calling. Thank you, Jan! What a kind a helpful person! It was a pleasure to speak with her and the city is lucky to have her. This restored my faith in the city having reasonable people at the helm...

Police can park wherever they want to as long as they are not placing anyone in danger to enforce the parking ordinances of the City. Don't want a parking ticket, don't illegally park. He is just doing his job as effectively as possible.

Yes, police can park wherever they need to if they are responding to a call. That doesn't have anything to do with parking enforcement, as they are not police. That is clearly the case because the parking attendant I spoke with the other day threatened to call the police if I got anywhere near him, even though I had not done anything to warrant such a threat. If he was the police, he would not have to call the police. The police agree with me on this, so I'm comfortable that my viewpoint is correct in this matter.

My original point was that this parking attendant was unapologetically saying that parking illegally on the street in question creates a hazardous situation and therefore those parked illegally must be issued tickets as that is the only cure for the situation. All the while, the individual in question was creating the exact hazard and illegal parking situation he excoriated. It's blatant hypocrisy and unnecessary at best. If it's so hard for them to find parking in that area, maybe they could be a little more understanding of the problem we're all facing.

They do not need to be apologetic when enforcing no parking. It is there job to enforce parking ordinances and ticket those to prevent repeated violations. 1 parking attendant is not the same as a number of parents, children, and their vehicles. It is not hypocrisy and unnecessary, they are simply doing their job.

If it is so hard for parents to find parking, why vilify the parking attendant who is trying to maintain a safe environment. Instead, blame the city for creating the problem and ask for an improvement to the situation.

We have a difference of opinion. If the parking attendant is so conscious about safety, perhaps he shouldn't park illegally and in a place where he gives others tickets, and instead should set a good example. This kind of thing just infuriates everyone who receives a ticket and weakens trust in our local government. It's clearly an unnecessary double standard and doesn't require much critical thinking to reckon with this simple concept.

While it's not a legal requirement to be a kind or reasonable person, believe it or not you can still do that and accomplish your job at the same time. Although some entities of government bend the rules because there's no enforcement for the enforcement, that shouldn't give them carte blanche to do whatever they want and get away with it. If no one holds authorities accountable, the problem will simply continue. It's exactly the same problem as people parking illegally. If it's not enforced, they'll do it and get away with it. If someone speaks up (or hands out fines), the behavior is likely to change.

That attendant should have a $75 ticket on the windshield of his parking enforcement vehicle, just like everyone else who parks illegally on that street, and should be required to pay or contest it just like the rest of us.

Considering the amount of time I have spent dealing with this issue, I should send the city a bill and tell them it will increase by some arbitrary amount every 30 days until paid. But if they like, they can go through an annoying and time wasting process and if I'm feeling nice that day I'll consider not making them pay it... ridiculous.

We do have a different opinion. I will cont to show my support for parking enforcement and in favor of people being ticketed by any means when they are knowingly violating parking ordinances. If ordinances are not enforced chaos will ensue. Im confused, you are in favor of the city issuing tickets, they just cant be a hypocrite and they need to be nice? People getting ticketed are often not nice.

Ill share with you one important point. Burlington inherently has a difficult time holding one of their own accountable. There are many municipal employees who do whatever they want and get away with it at the expense of their citizens and taxpayers.
