Description
Sinkhole started developing at the edge of the road in the driveway into and including road surface, where the area had been dug out to replace and install a new waterline to 1242 Bronx Ave. This has continued through the winter, worsening with passing time. As well as the original sinkhole expanding and getting deeper, (up to 6 to 8 feet around and 8 to 10 inches deep currently.), a secondary sinkhole in the middle of the road, a noticeable disruption in the pavement surface, and a skewing of the adjacent sewer-head would give indication that something is taking place in this area under the road with the water and/or sewer. Since the replacement of the waterline the resident at 1242 Bronx Ave. has complained of lower water pressure and sediment in her water. This could also be another indication of some waterline leakage, (possible health and safety issues.), Since the lead waterline replacements of last fall there have been numerous quality issues noted of the roadway restoration and other sinkhole developments throughout this Eastwood neighborhood. I will follow up with more pictures of more addresses.

Results from “repair” attempt. Sinkhole with large quantity of muddy water. This is an active driveway. This was brought to the attention of the Kalamazoo City Water Dept in early summer due to the property owners desire to install a concrete apron between the sidewalk and street. This is not possible with the collapsing area of the pavement in the street and the surrounding area. Last fall when the problem first became noticeable the property owner called in and the first response was also to fill it with soil. Obviously did not resolve issues. To date my most recent message to engineer in charge has not produced a response.
