Description

Hi, This is a repeat of a request I made to 3 city officials/executive several weeks ago, via the City's website link, which specifically asks whether, "you would like a response" to your inquiry. I have not had a response from any of the three city officials.
Wiley Street is located in the increasingly popular tourist area of Rocky Neck, which increase tourist foot and vehicle traffic, particularly in the the Spring thru the Fall, with many people of ages exploring the area due to its many attractions, including those relating to the arts and significant ocean and harbor vista. The numerous potholes on Wiley street are very dangerous, and do pose a threat both pedestrian and vehicular traffic, and could not only cause damage and injury, day and night, to vehicles, but also to individuals, both tourists and residents alike. Today, a city truck with 3 city workers filled potholes on the adjacent Freemont Street and even one about two feet from a large one on Wiley Street. Several Wiley Street residents approached them and asked if they could fill the holes on Wiley, but they stated they could not do so without authorization from the DPW, in spite of the close proximity to where they were working. Several weeks ago, the city employees filled the potholes on Rackcliffe, including those across from the Rockaway condos, even though it is considered a "private" street. This is true throughout Rocky Neck, where it seems that all streets receive more services than Wiley Street, including pothole filling, regardless of whether the streets are considered private or public. No one ever seems to come down our street to check it out. We would really appreciate the "pot hole" treatment as well as a visit from the city "street sweeper"-we will all welcome them with open arms and warm greetings. One other issue, I should mention is the "fire lane" across from the Rockaway condos on Rackcliffe, at the intersection of Freemont. Residents and guests continuously park in the fire lane which means that a fire truck or the city's big red ambulance can not make the turn when coming from Wiley St., or Freemont. I was a witness to it, as I had a bad accident recently, where the ambulance had to back up to make the turn, vs. making a clean turn en route rushing to the hospital. I recently asked a policeman about it, and he said if he did tag or authorize towing, the neighbors would just complain. It is not right, particularly because we have a woman, on Wiley, with a terminal illness, which could require a fire truck or ambulance, etc. at any time! Thanks for listening. I am writing this note on behalf of several residents, who know that I am so doing.

P.S. I have included, herein, a single photo of one of the potholes on Wiley Street in Rocky Neck. I have more, but it seems that this site will only accept one attachment. If you want more, I have 'em! Let me know.
Please FILL & SWEEP!! Thank you.

P.S. In this edit, just figured out how to add more photos, from further down the street..

also asked...
Q. Please provide more information about the location of the pothole (ex. closest intersection, nearby milestones, etc)
A. Pot holes on Wiley Street, beginning at the intersection of Wiley and Freemont. Dangerous!
