Description

Just returned from getting groceries at Fine Fare with my son. There were upwards of 10 people loitering outside of Bauer’s liquor and the closed barber shop. They had open containers, they had bikes and chairs blocking the sidewalk, a boom box playing and one of the women, visibly intoxicated was mocking my child as he tried to ride by on his scooter “are you going to the park?” She yelled as she laughed at him. I didn’t take photos or report until I got home because I was afraid and so was my child. We shouldn’t have to be afraid to go to the grocery store in the middle of the afternoon on a Sunday. Why can’t we clean this area up and get rid of these derelicts once and for all!

There are always drunk and loud people in front of this store. I have never seen cops go to clear the area. Very unsafe.

Yes PLEASE help with this. it isn't safe. They always cat call me and are drunk. I live really close and I hate that they can see me walk into my house. There was a knife fight in front of it a few weeks ago too. ENOUGH. PLEASE CLEAN THIS UP IM SCARED.

Yes, please please do something about this. There are people hanging out there all the time, visibly intoxicated, often making comments. I hate walking past there with my kids, and worry when my kids walk home from school alone past that spot. Not to mention all the empty cans and bottles that get strewn around that corner and further down into Gautier. It is dangerous and filthy.

Perhaps, if consistent police monitoring these people would leave the area. This store is near a school and school children often walk past this store on route to work and school. Something needs to be done. They harass women and children. It is not ok.

I witnessed them openly drinking at around 1:15 pm, this issue has been reported ad nauseum and it seems like unless something tragic happens - which is more likely than not - nothing is going to be done. This needs to be addressed NOW and a permanent solution has to be put in place. It is a disservice and an insult to the good people who live in this area to have to STILL be dealing with this despite the fact that it has been reported countlessly for at least the 5 years I have lived here.I plan on forwarding this string to Captain Voustas

I’ve too witnessed people drunk outside this store. Visually drunk. Also, throwing their garbage on the street contributing again to the filth on West Side. They cat call, block the sidewalk, and create an unsafe environment for all West Siders. This business owner and area needs to be monitored by our police and violations need to be served. Please fix this issue.

This has been a QoL issue for years. You move them on and they come back, but sustainable enforcement is nowhere to be found. They are loud and abusive to passersby. It’s time for a permanent solution. They are there EVERY DAY!

I agree with these concerns. I have no problem with people hanging out and having a good time, but the groups outside of this business are visibly under the influence all times of day and often aggressive - especially towards women, even with young children in tow.

Even when people aren't hanging out in front of the store, that intersection is always a mess because they leave trash all over. There isn't a garbage can on that side of the street between St. Al's and St. Peter's.

I agree with the missing trash cans (on the opposite side of thr street too) and lacking police presence, I really hope something can be done to change this.

It's a mess that area. The store should be fined for allowing them to hang out in front of there like that. It's a place of business!

Can we please get an update on this issue? It has been outstanding for two months with no response. This block continues to be filled with vagrants and derelicts drinking publicly, blocking sidewalks and disturbing the peace. What is the plan to get Westside Ave cleaned up?

It's a mess over there. The new JCPD recruits won't approach them, they are still new & fragile. Have to call 201 547 5477 and ecourage others to do the same on this manner!

The residents should continue to call the Non-Emergency Police or 911 if they are threatened. sanitation addresses the litter problem daily with the store owner they are responsible to clean up around his store since most of the cans and bottles are purchased from them. inspector F. Scalcione has been warned on multiple occasions and its up to the police to clear the people drinking in public

From the Police West "We have walking patrols in that area almost daily from 3-11 pm. If the police are notified at 547-5477 , I’m certain they will respond and address the issue as best they can. Keep in mind we have addressed this problem before. It seems there is a take out restaurant and two hair salons in that area, as well as the liquor store. Customers have been observed standing outside smoking, drinking coffee / soda, or engaged in conversation while waiting for service. The liquor store has been a topic of complaints of this nature before. We’ll certainly take a look at it again." Please continue to notify the police. Thank You
