Robert -
Thank you for your concern. Prior to installation, the City carefully considered the options to provide safe and interesting crosswalks in our downtown area. The selected material is designed to retain its color as it wears down over time. For this reason, the City does not have immediate plans to replace the current crosswalks.
I understand that not all resident would choose this type of crosswalk. However, since installation, we have not received many complaints about these crosswalks. Some people prefer the new crosswalks and many seem to like them. I would be happy to talk with you about this over a phone call especially if there are 2-3 specific places where the material has worn away. You can reach me directly at 678.553.6570. John Maximuk, Director, DEC office.

I often have to flag cars down by frantically waving my arms before crossing at one of the new crosswalks. This is not an issue that is solved with artistic solutions. We need safety in crossing. Drivers do not heed the art on the street. In addition, funding was used to apply these crosswalks, and now they are deteriorating beneath the traffic. Shouldn’t we get our money back from the source?
