Description

The new bus boarding island and bike channel on southbound Shellmound Ave before Shellmound Way is a disaster, and needs to be fixed ASAP before someone is seriously injured or worse. Boarding islands with bike channels on the far sides of intersections are great, but this one is on the near side (before the intersection) meaning that bikes exiting the channel are dumped blindly back onto the street right where cars will be crossing, with horrible sight lines especially when a bus is at the stop. To make matters worse there is a right turn pocket and bike lane conflict zone just south of the island, meaning that cars are potentially crossing the path of bike riders right when they leave the channel. This is an incredibly bad design, and I implore the city to enact some fixes ASAP.
