Unfortunately the City does not have enough funding to repave all streets in poor condition. With limited funding, our response to resurfacing requests is limited to minor pavement and pothole repairs only. Our Street Maintenance Department will assess your street and determine whether temporary measures might be appropriate. Please understand that this work may be limited to pothole or other minor repairs, and that we have many similar requests. We will do our best to respond in a timely manner. The backlog of streets in Oakland needing pavement currently is $435 million and growing.

  I know two people who crashed on bikes because of these tracks and smashed out teath and one other one who broke his leg. The city should fix this before someone takes legal action

  Several of my neighbors took a blighted hotel owner to small claims and won. It may be necessary for a group of people affected by these and all Union Pacific abandoned rail lines to take Union Pacific to small claims. The City has referred abandoned the rails of Union Pacific numerous time and nothing has happened. Its worth looking into.

  @david coleman: that's not a bad idea. i can round up all of my friends who have wiped out or blown tires on these dangerous old tracks along with everyone in my building and all of their friends and maybe our voice will be strong enough and loud enough to make union pacific AND/OR the city pay attention to the high liability issue they are both ignoring.

  come on Oakland, since you give me parking tickets on this street for street cleaning and YOU KEEP the $$$, you obviously have some rights and with those rights comes responsibility so why don't YOU take care of the dangerous hazards on this street and fix this sh**?!?!?

  stop trying to pass off the responsibility on someone else and just do it yourselves!! I've been living here almost 10 years and no one has ever done a thing about these horrible roads that have been like this since I moved here. it's unacceptable.

  union street was repaved on both sides of this intersection yet for some unknown and ridiculous reason, 26th street from poplar to magnolia was left untouched and remains a total hazard and is still unsafe. stop passing the responsibility on to union pacific, these are the city’s streets at this point. fix it already.
