Description
Rats-many, many rats. This building is the repository of the rats which are plaguing this block. Alameda County vector control came out more than a month ago, found evidence of rats living in this building--both droppings and burrows- and set traps. He immediately informed the landlord, in writing via email, that the numerous opening in the building were allowing rats into the crawl space, and they would soon get into our apartment through the numerous holes between our floor and the crawl space. He advised her to gets handyman to close up the holes, and a pest control contractor to trap the rats. He advised me that rats carry leptospirosis, a disease that can be fatal, and is transmitted via their urine. The landlord refused to respond. The vector control biologist kindly came back to remove the dead rats. He then informed the landlord the county cannot provide ongoing vermin control services, and cannot close up the holes (caused by illegal and permit less work, and damage done during permitted work on the front commercial unit.)

Don: Thanks. Suing isn't fast enough to keep us alive, although obviously I will do that.
Roxanne: The Alameda Housing Authority deals only with rent increases and terminations. They have nothing to do with forcing a landlord to do repairs (unless they own the building). I have done a lot of going around to other Alameda departments, and the county, to try to deal with the fact that Code Enforcement refuses to do the job they are being paid to do, and retaliates if you to force them to do it. Publicly documenting that Code Enforcement is endangering Alameda residents by refusing to do their jobs appears to be the only way them to act.

On the other hand, it is also a way to see what Alameda is doing well. I'm impressed with Public Works on trees, signs, public property graffiti removal, illegal dumping removal, Clean Water (no dumping to the storm drains), and a whole bunch of other things. I had no idea they did all those things, and would do them for me if I posted dumping or graffiti or faded signs.
Public Works has really helped with the rat problem near here by making sure garbage is picked up, especially food waste, dumped items are removed, bus shelters are cleaned of sugary goo rats love, etc. I went looking for the rat-attracting issues within a few blocks in every direction, posted them, and they were fixed within days. I cannot get Code Enforcement to act, my slumlord is actively not acting to force us out, so it is so satisfying to post something and have Public Works get it done.
Thank you all for your help.

the connecting blocks of San Jose and San Antonio. Apparently Alameda code enforcement is going to be required to force KT's landlord to abate the vermin. Why are you trying to bully KT into shutting up instead of demanding that Alameda Code Enforcement show up and protect us?

She probably hasn't reported any of the disciplinary actions. Get her on a technicality.

Now the rats have made it inside my apartment, as county vermin said they would because of the massive rat infestation in the basement below us, and the numerous holes between that basement and our unit. I understand that the Code Enforcement department, Mcfann, Givens, Fullard, Potter, are retaliating against us because we complained about their failure to do their job, and their disability discrimination, and retaliation for attempting to report their disability discrimination, but are you really going to allow our neighbors, including the restaurants which serve food to the public, to be infested by this rat colony and the diseases the rats carry?
The backyard of 1217 Park St and 1217 A Park St is overrun with rats, as the landlord refuses to cut the grass or bushes of the common areas in retaliation for us trying to stop her from contaminating the property with lead. We failed; she poisoned the children who share the property with lead; but she is still retaliating against us, and the Code Enforcement Department of Alameda is helping her.

All of us need to rise up and band together to take collective major action against the city. I'm tired of seeing this. I see this every single day. Almost every issue reported on this site. The city consistently does not serve the residents of this island, the city consistently ignores complaints from residents about serious problems with crime, blight, code enforcement, etc. The city consistently lets this happen and continues to drag their feet while Alameda is steadily overrun by crime, homelessness and blight. What do you guys say? Lets all get together and start a major action against the city. Honestly, I think the city needs more than a lawsuit. I think this city needs a god d*** revolution. I'm sick and tired of this worthless, corrupt city government walking all over the taxpaying citizens of this island, taking our tax dollars and doing absolutely nothing to address the problems in our community that continue to grow worse and worse. Enough is enough. It's time to revolt!
