Description
Saint Vincent De Paul homeless shelter is starting to become a problem again. In case the neighbors of Uptown on 15th st N have not already noticed. This area has just started to get nice and now all the problems are starting up again. If you care about your community start protesting. The officer I spoke to today told me to brace for what is coming, an additional alcohol treatment center is now another service being implemented. So the people you see in the early mornings roaming the area for money and drugs will also include them.
Be careful these people are extremely dangerous! I have seen it with my own eyes.

We work closely with various City departments and local social service providers to address issues faced by our homeless population, and we also work with neighborhood associations to address the concerns they have, as well. Our Police Department has a Street Outreach Team that actively canvasses areas where the activities of the homeless are noticed, and they will continue doing so to ensure the safety of all citizens. Please immediately report any criminal activity or safety concerns to the SPPD directly by calling 727-893-7780 if not an emergency, or 911 if an emergency. Thank you.

Thank you for sharing your concerns about the Society of St. Vincent de Paul shelter and surrounding neighborhood. As you may know, we now have a police substation located just west of the St. Vincent de Paul facility. Having officers report and deploy from this location has significantly improved the safety and overall conditions in the neighborhood. Our officers actively patrol this area during both day and evening hours and report a much improved situation. Arrests for drug dealing and possession, trespassing, and other illegal activities are greatly reduced. In addition, calls to 9-1-1 for medical emergencies, loitering, and other negative activities that were occurring prior to the opening of the substation have declined significantly.
For their part, St. Vincent de Paul has placed a limit on the number of people served in the shelter, and requires each guest to actively participate in a case management plan to work on achieving self-sufficiency, with the goal of obtaining and sustaining permanent housing. They have advised us they want to be good neighbors and will continue to do their part to keep the neighborhood safe and a desirable place to live.
Finally, neither the police or other city staff have knowledge of an alcohol treatment center opening in your neighborhood. There are alcohol and drug treatment facilities located in other areas of the city and county, but none have expressed a desire to relocate or open a new facility in the vicinity of St. Vincent de Paul.
Thank you again for sharing your concerns with us.

I have told the police on several occasions that I appreciate all that they have done.
I only hope they continue to parole this area,
Again Thank you so very much for all that you do.

The City of St Petersburg periodically reviews past reports that are made from citizens within our city limits, and in an effort to clean-up old issues that were resolved some time ago, we are marking as 'closed' those issues that were submitted in the past for which the work has been completed or the issue has otherwise been resolved.
If you think for any reason that the issue you submitted in the past might still be unresolved, please feel free to submit a new report with the SeeClickFix St. Pete website and we will make sure the issue is directed to the appropriate City department to be addressed as soon as possible.
