Description
After receiving a traffic citation of a unknown fine for riding my bike on the Amerson to Riverside trail extension it might be a good idea to update the Heritage Trail website and formally issue a press release to let the public know that section of trail is indefinitely closed. The signs indicate it's closed due to flooding and the river hasn't been at flood levels in a long time, so why would I think it would be a problem to ride the trail. I checked NewTowns website for updates and all I could find was a projected opening date of June 1st. If law enforcement is going to hand tickets, not warnings out, signage should be posted to clearly state that. I took a picture of the open gate and went to ride in, I had ear buds in acquaint hear the officer honking at me. I stopped as soon as I noticed him and he got out of his truck and immediately began to write a ticket. I find this to be a little excessive and all I wanted to see was how a trail I am very excited to see finished was progressing.

There has been no press release saying the trail is open to the public. The website will be updated when open for public use.

I think getting Macon/Bibb and New Town to issue a statement to the Macon Telegraph informing the public of the indefinite closure and updating the website would be highly advisable The amount of highly publicized stories
featuring the Mayors brother riding the trail 5 months ago, talk of bridges being installed etc. gives the public the impression it's opening was on track. All I am asking is to be clear on the trails website and issue a press release saying that you will receive a citation if you ride the trail. After making some calls and recalling the Rangers explanation there are now these reasons I shouldn't be on the trail.
- 16/75 construction
- Uncontrolled raw sewage issues
- Trail was built on railroad easement without permission
- Trail design is unsafe, city planner almost fell in the river 2 or more times
Just let the public know the deal with proper notice and signage. A no pedestrians and flooding sign isn't enough if your going to hand out citations.
