Also, there is a hill on Oakland Mills Road that causes very limited sight distance at the intersection with Fairmead Lane. People driving on Oakland Mills are not driving the 35 speed limit. When they go over 40 miles an hour, which is often, you cannot see them coming over the hill when you need to exit Fairmead /Loring with enough time. There needs to be a traffic light at either Dawn Day or Fairmead Lane. Our neighborhood has been waiting for a light FOR YEARS. And yes, I think they are going to wait until someone does die. An especially bad time is during the school year between 2:15 and 3:00 pm, when the high school students from Oakland Mills road are driving south on Oakland Mills. However, they are far from the only ones.

As a fairly new resident of Orchard Hill living quite close to the intersection of Dawn Day and Oakland Mills, we've already seen numerous accidents ranging in severity at this intersection. We can hear the crunch of cars from the house during the night and during the day. Most of the time HCPD is on the scene. One accident actually involved a police car! This is also a pedestrian crossing that is used by adults and children and cars rarely stop for pedestrians. A traffic light is sorely needed.

I've been reporting this for some time, many accidents as pulling out of dawn day drive onto oakland mills road. There are county trees blocking the view, opposing left turns at Sewells Orchard and an incline exiting the neighborhood which makes visibility difficult during busy times (especially 8 am and 5 pm) Any improvement would be greatly appreciated!

I agree with my neighbors that we need a traffic light at the intersection of Dawn Day, Sewells Orchard, and Oakland Mills. It has become almost impossible to make a left turn out of my neighborhood. Cars traveling on Oakland Mills Road seldom go 35 mph and I would venture to say that some are actually approaching 55-60 mph. It is even worse when there is snow piled up on the sides of the roads. I too question whether or not it will take a death for something to be done.

I also live very close to this intersection and have heard several accidents there. Cars are usually speeding on Oakland Mills Road. I have seen school buses drop off children at and adjacent to this intersection. Either a traffic signal/light or a traffic circle is needed at this intersection please.

I agree that a traffic signal or circle is needed. I have never encountered cars that stopped for me and my dogs to cross the street. Because of the hill I believe cars can't see me standing there and speeding is a problem there as well. I always hope that kids are careful crossing this intersection. Numerous traffic accidents are proof that there is an issue that needs to be addressed. We live in Orchard Hill close to the entrance of the neighborhood.

I have lived here for over 3 years and witnessed accidents and near misses here. My son and I were almost the victims of an accident at this intersection the year we moved in as a result of excessive speed and obstructed vision at this intersection. We need a traffic light!

Please! I have lived here since 1983 and the traffic problems at Sewells Orchard Drive and Oakland Mills have only gotten worse. Someone posted to please do something before someone dies. Well, someone died a few years ago as the result of an accident at that intersection so we are already too late but we can prevent further tragedies with some sort of traffic control. Thank you.

I agree with all the other comments. I've lived in Sewells Orchard since 2000 and exit Sewells Orchard Dr onto Oakland Mills Rd many times a day. A left turn there is very difficult, especially in the late afternoon. Many cars are driving in excess of the speed limit and the slight hill makes in difficult to see a car in time when it is traveling 45 or 50 mph in a 35 zone. You cant do speed enforcement 24 hrs a day and when they do it is usually further down the road at the Verizon office building driveway.

I cross this street daily to walk around Sewells Orchard - no matter how carefully I try to avoid cars, I am shocked how many can't see me until they are very close. The crosswalk is hidden from view due to the hill (mentioned in comments above)

Another accident at this intersection last night, 13 Nov 2018. I could not see what happened but several police cars and tow truck loading a damage car. You could not turn onto Sewells Orchard from Oakland Mills as the police had it blocked. Lots of sand on the roadway so I'm guessing the accident was bad enough to cause a fuel spill.

Agree that it would be nice to get an update from the county. Cars are constantly speeding on Oakland Mills road and it is hard to come into or leave Sewells Orchard some days. I don’t think asking how many accidents have to happen or something worse to get a response. Please provide an update. We have our family, friends, neighbors and community we care about at stake. The way people speed on Oakland Mills in the vicinity of Dawn Day and Sewell's Orchard makes it even more dangerous as it makes it nearly impossible to make a safe decision about turning onto Oakland Mills Rd. We need a traffic light here to make it safer for everyone!

I had an accident at the intersention of Oakland MILLS and Dawn Day ,Nov. 2017 about 5;30 P.M. The driver hit me as I turned left from Oakland Mills to Dawn Day. My car was total .
Yes, I could have died because I was hit and was bleeding from my head.

I agree that a traffic signal, speed bumps in the right places, or round-about is needed - something to slow down the traffic. Making a left turn out of Orchard Hill (Dawn Day Dr) can be dangerous given the rise of that hill and turning left into Dawn Day Dr. can also be dangerous because you cannot see the right lane of oncoming traffic if there is someone turning left into Sewell's Orchard - even more dangerous. I bet turning left out of Sewell's Orchard is even worse.
