we had the same issues with the city and called in panic with brown water coming out of everything including drinking water and icemaker. I called and department was not aware of meters being changed and sent out tech to test our water. I was told to open and flush out system, left open hose bib and faucets and flushed toilets for 25 minuets. still had brown water so stopped and talked to installers across the street. they said when they got further down block it will be ok and flush again which I did again for another 25-30 minutes. it was better but not perfect and I would not drink it. at 11:30 pm going to bed I checked fridge again and water looked like watered down tea so continued to flush out line again and dumped ice cubes out. called city back and water tester came out and tested water, ok. he opened the fire hydrant and it looked like coffee coming out so flushed it for awhile until it cleared up. as per poster I cannot believe city is not telling homeowners in advance to have drinking water available and ice. poor planning and communication.
