Our former Public Service Director had the property surveyed where the embankment is to find out the property line and ROW. We discussed the possibility of moving the sidewalk to the opposite side of the road and SCDOT said it was not an option due to crosswalk issues. It has been decided that the trees growing on the slope will need to be removed, the embankment that has slid down will need to be dug back and grated (possibly a retaining wall installed) while the sidewalk, curb and a portion of asphalt removed and replaced. With that being said, it was determined it was not a simple sidewalk repair that we would paint with yellow to warn people who were walking of the hazard. The determination came that it was going to have to be a grant or capital improvement project and it would be more in the $30,000.00 to $50,000.00 range. This exceeds our total annual sidewalk budget and, unfortunately, is not feasible at this time.
