Description

This request is for a small median or several delineator post be placed on Westchester Ave at Scott Blvd. With the re-opening of Westchester Elementary, the concern over the amount cut-through traffic and the rate of speed of drivers has grown. One fix that can immediately impact the rate of speed at which drivers turn onto Westchester from Scott is the installation of delineator posts or a small median. Drivers, attempting to beat westbound traffic on Scott Boulevard, will turn onto Westchester Blvd at a high rate of speed. Many of these drivers will cut their turns short into oncoming traffic onto Westchester. This creates a hazard for families crossing Westchester as well as for vehicles heading south on Westchester towards Scott Boulevard. I believe that the installation of delineator posts like the type installed in the turn lane on Scott in front of Westchester Elementary or a small median like the type at Clairemont and Ponce De Leon PL would instantly make the area safer for children and families. Installing 5-6 posts starting at the crosswalk will discourage drivers from turning at a high rate of speed onto Westchester and will also discourage them from turning into oncoming traffic on Westchester. This could be done relatively quickly and with little expense.
