Thank you for your e-mail about the adult soccer group that is using Village park during the week in the evenings. I will speak to the group and work with them to possibly find another location for their games. The groups is not breaking any park rules but I understand that their use of the field can cause significant wear before the summer and the upcoming AYSO season in the Fall.

This was last night. The field already looks terrible. It is not even July. The city receives revenue from AYSO and Club Soccer to help with maintenance. These players pay absolutely nothing so, in effect, AYSO and Club Soccer pay to cover the cost of these adult players as well. Still, the children are left playing on part dirt and part grass in the fall. Just change the rules to require the purchase of a permit. I am sure these players would happily pay $5-10 per head. That would be real revenue. Plus, permitting would allow you to control usage and wear/tear as well as provide a quality field to all, including the neighborhood. Why do we have to deal with this every year? The solution is so straight forward: pay to play...for kids and adults alike.

Thank you for the e-mail with the photo from last night at Village Park. I will be relocating that pick up soccer group to Bayside Fields and be charging them a rental fee for the use of the park. I had informed the group coordinator that if I received complaints from the neighbors and the field started to show significant wear and tear they would be moved to another location. I have made contact with the group coordinator this morning and they should not be on Village Park from this point forward.

Thank you! That is good news. I am also glad to hear the city will get some revenue. Perhaps that revenue can be deployed to do some restoration at Village Park. The grass needs it.

With the removal of this group we hope that the field will get some rest before the start of AYSO season in the Fall. I will work with the parks staff to see if they can help the field conditions improve during these summer months.
