Description

The crosswalk at the Roswell Street/Old Roswell Street/Cotton Alley intersection is extremely unsafe for pedestrians. There should be:

1. Improved directions on existing signage (“State Law: Stop for Pedestrians Within Crosswalk”)
2. New signage IN THE MIDDLE OF the crosswalk (like the attached photo)
3. Visible police enforcement of the law and consequences for offenders.

I work in downtown Alpharetta, so I park in the Cotton Alley lot. Police officers are very aggressive about chalking cars in 2-3 hour spots, but I’ve never observed any of them watching out for pedestrians, especially those of us who obey the parking laws and have to cross Old Roswell Street to get to work.

For months, I’ve crossed Roswell Street twice a day to get to and from my office, and only two motorists have stopped when I’ve been at or in the crosswalk. Once, a woman turned on Roswell from Old Roswell and came within a few feet of hitting me. This morning, I was in the middle of the crosswalk and a fast-moving car topped the Old Roswell Street hill and SPED UP as he approached me. I had to run out of the crosswalk to avoid being hit.

I should add that like my coworkers, not only do I work in downtown Alpharetta, I spend lots of money here — we’re among the city’s best, most regular customers. Breakfasts at Mugs, lunches at Corner Deli, haircuts at Aria, gifts from Sis and Moons.
