Description

I’ve brought this issue up on numerous occasions over the past few years, most recently last September without permanent resolve. I wanted to give it one more try hoping this parking issue can be resolved for good.

Taken today, this picture view is what I see and have seen for most of the week when trying to pull out of my driveway onto Kellogg Street and because I know the road is packed with parked cars, my trip home has to be detoured around and down Prospect Street so I can safely see what cars are coming at me before pulling into my driveway as cars traveling on the road are now mostly pushed over to the opposite side of the road due to the cars parked along the entire right hand side of the road (bottom to top of the street). The picture attached shows the view I saw as I left my driveway today, 1/15/16 at 11:45 am. Due to this parking congestion on the Street, I am forced to pull out so far in to the middle of the street that I am in danger of being struck by cars coming down Kellogg from Prospect. The parked cars will most likely disappear by 3:00 pm when school lets out but this road is a “cut through” between Central and Prospect so there is ongoing traffic flow throughout the day, especially in the hours before the end of school.

The best resolution would be if the School finds a permanent off road parking lot. But ever since they renovated part of the school back 7/8 or so years ago, they noted they were looking into more parking and that hasn’t happened yet. If, in front of all the houses on the road from start of the hill to the end\top of the hill and forked section, could not be school parking spaces it would make the flow of traffic so much safer every day. As I mentioned, this section of the roadway is a dangerous area…since it is a “cut through” and there are no stop signs when approaching the forked section of the road before pulling onto the main road heading towards Central Street, cars don’t slow up but if this area of roadway remained open and clear of day long parked cars, the cars traveling along this stretch of road in front of the houses would then be able to travel and stay in their lane on the proper side of the road instead of maneuvering past the parked cars into oncoming traffic.

I know issues arise on every roadway, of course, and one adapts…but doesn’t it make sense to prevent an accident rather than wait for one to occur on Kellogg Street before it is resolved for good?

Thank you for your time given to this matter.
