Description
The crosswalk across Stadium to get to Pioneer HS is on one of the busiest streets in town and sees near misses with our kids every day. These kids deserve a flashing light like there are on Plymouth Rd. to help them cross, especially as the days get shorter. Please take this seriously before something tragic happens.

How many times does this have to be reported until something is done?
It IS going to take some tragic happening and sueing the city to get it fixed!!
So sad!

The RRFB's and crosswalk upgrades are scheduled for 2016. What problem was resolved?
In addition, parents are questioning the upgrades city staff have proposed as inadequate and prioritizing driver convenience over pedestrians safety.

Thank you! NO PROBLEM HAS BEEN RESOLVED!!!
NO new signage has been installed, cars, school buses (which I have reported), & city garbage trucks are still speeding through there and NOT STOPPING for kids waiting at the crosswalk, & these kids are risking their lives most mornings & afternoons just trying to get to school and get home.
They could at least put up the small signs before the crosswalk that says "STOP for pedestrians, it's the law." (Whatever the exact wording is.). I also posted a picture of a temporary flashing stop/crosswalk sign that is used in front of the Kroger store at Maple. (These signs are on blocks of concrete & can be easily placed & removed when the permant solution is made in 2016.
The funny thing is that post was deleted by the admin of this site. Poof...gone!!
I know at least 5 different people have reported this issue over the past year AND NOTHING HAS BEEN RESOLVED!!
So as Ms. Griswold has asked...
"HOW HAS THIS BEEN RESOLVED???"
It has been "acknowledged" by this site. But in reality...IT HAS ONLY BEEN IGNORED!!
There has been no more police presence as requested several times either. The time to be there is between 7:20am - 7:45am, if only for observation, to see the situation is NOT RESOLVED!!
Now, please do not delete this post.
Thank you

Not sure where this need to go from here... I see this as part of the planned updates for this crosswalk: (From: http://www.a2gov.org/departments/engineering/Documents/StadiumBlvd_public_mtg_summary_Sept30_2015_v4%20-%20final%20version%20151015.pdf)
"The crossing at Edgewood is perceived to be dangerous. How will this project address that issue?
The Edgewood crossing will be moved to the west of Edgewood and Rectangular Rapid Flash Beacons (RRFBs) will be used.
The Ann Arbor Public Schools transportation safety committee and Pioneer High School (PHS) leadership have approved the new crosswalk designs.
Streetlights will be of the same design and lighting intensity that currently exist both east and west of South Main Street."
That same document (the summary from the last meeting) also says this: "I was told that prior to the reconstruction that police would be monitoring the Edgewood crossing on occasion but we have not seen any since the start of school.... The City of Ann Arbor will follow up on this request."
Can we get some feedback on what was done as far as police presence? I have not seen much.

I called the police special services number and left a message again on Monday, December 13th at approximately 7:45am.
This again was because kids were trying to cross and two cars were speeding in front of Pioneer and never even bothered to slow down, let alone stop. Off course at 7:30am now, it is DARK. So the drivers probably did not know they were waiting to cross. So, if they had tried, they would have been hit.
It is now Monday, December 18th and I have not received a call back to discuss the issue as I asked in my message that I left. There also was NOT a police presence there the rest of the week, as requested either.
Hopefully, they will be there when school resumes on Jan. 4th.
Also, thanks Griswiold and BabsMcPhee for your persistence and attention to this dangerous and very important issue.

Thanks again Griswold for helping hold their feet to the fire. Soooo Frustrating!!!
And here is the icing on the cake...
On Friday, June 3rd at approximately 3:50pm, I was picking up my daughter & her friend from Pioneer High School. We were actually sitting right at the stop sign on Pioneer property waiting to turn right onto Stadium. (Heading East)
At this time, two female students were trying to cross Stadium in this very dangerous crosswalk. And as usual, no one was paying attention as they drove by/through this crosswalk. Hence, NO ONE was stopping or even slightly slowing down!!
I sat there waiting & hoping the traffic would stop for these students to be able to cross safely. Then to my TOTAL ASTONISHMENT...a POLICE SUV WENT RIGHT BY/THOUGH THE CROSSWALK TOO WITHOUT SLOWING DOWN OR STOPPING!!! 😡😡😡(No lights or sirens) He was just driving along ignoring the crosswalk like most drivers do. 😡😡😡😡
I seriously sat there in shock!!!! I got so angry!! I followed this police SUV to get the vehicle number. #450 (He was reported later. Of course, we will never know if anything was done.)
So how can we expect regular citizens/motorists to stop at these dangerous crosswalks IF the police are NOT evening going too????
So, I totally agree that this report should NOT be closed until it is finally fixed by the "so-called" planned construction project.
I will believe it's solved when the construction is finished & the crosswalk fixed. We will see on September 6, 2016 when school resumes for the 2016-2017 school year. 😬
Thank you

Oh! And by the way, we will be at PHS 3 times a week throughout the whole Summer. So, hopefully, we will be able to see this problem "solved" from start to finish. 😃
That will be just amazing to witness. (Yes, it means that much to me.)
QUESTION: Is there an approximate or projected start date on the construction project that includes this crosswalk?
Thank you
