I regularly clean up this strip of land, day in and day out, but (and perhaps the perspective is missing from the photo) is a large load, big box, and strewn "junk"...way beyond the capacity of my trunk, and not the kind of things that would fit in my trashbin (even though I'd use the recycle bin for the cardboard.)
People handle trash issues in Lakewood every day. If they didn't, we'd be up to our ears in McDonald's wrappers. Non-residents drive through here regularly and throw their garbage, including dirty diapers, out of their car windows. Many of us pick it up, on foot, by bike, in our cars. No one should expect a resident making a legitimate complaint to be told to get out and do it himself.
Oh I assure you Judy, I have a nice day everyday. I just think it is funny of you to suggest waiting possibly a few days to a week or two for the city to clean this up, and then turn around and get on someone's case for placing garbage for special pickup in front of their house on a Friday for Monday pickup. See the hypocricy here? Why not suggest that, if you find the pile of trash to be an eyesore, be a good neighbor and citizen and clean it up? You already said we pick up dirty diapers thrown out of car windows all day long, what worse could possibly be in that pile?
If we call Tony in Sanitation and ask for a pick-up for stuff like this, we can get it the next day.
Landlords who dump their stuff on their own property and then walk away from it are a different breed from the lout who creates a trash heap on a right of way. The landlord owns property here and should know better... is the problem that you are one of them? Is that why you're being so abusive?
Do you ever have anything nice to say about Lakewood? If you're so unhappy here, please put your house on the market - it's a good time to sell -- and there are a lot of people very eager to move in.
And hypocrisy is spelled with an s.
This is the last time I will respond to your whining; I have better things to do with my time, much of it spent keeping this place looking as good as it does and as safe as it is even for people who don't appreciate it. How about you find some constructive way to spend your time, ok?
I have lived in Lakewood Estates for almost 40 years. How about you? I take pride in my neighborhood but also understand that some people struggle. And you and the wanna be HOA you call a civic association are a bunch of hypocrites. There is a home on my street that over the years you have personally called out for one issue after another, as if you have a personal vendetta against the home owners. Directly across the street, is a lady who, for the past 12 months, has had her garbage can by the street. But why do you not report her to code enforcement? Because she is a civic association member, that's why. And that is why I call you out on your inconsistencies. So I hope you feel really good about yourself calling out a spelling error I made while typing on the tiny keyboard on my phone, but as far as moving, I'll be living here long after you are gone. As a matter of fact, maybe I will join this LECA and attend every meeting and put my two cents in in person. I would love to hear what my neighbors have to say. And I would love for you to get to know me better as a neighbor.
Son of St. Pete., I don't know who you are but I find it rather strange that you are hiding behind a fictitious name. I on the other hand want you to know who I am. my name is Bonnie Rocks and have lived in beautiful Lakewood for 43 years. I take umbrage to being called a hypocrite. I am a member of the association as well as I sit on the board. I joyfully pay my $15.00 each year to enjoy what we have in this community. Let me spell it out for you. Last year the association paid for more than one hundred kids on our end of town to have free swimming lessons. each meeting that we have we have barrels for the food we collect from the association for the free clinic. many hundreds of pounds of food. we have collected blankets and clothes, last year 200 back packs full of things needed by the homeless, socks ,toothpaste, brushes, washing gear. I will have you know all of this was done by the members of the LECA, those that you call hypocrites. not only do we help those less fortunate but we care for and adopt out many animals thrown away in our area. WE the Lakewood association is a highly respected as one of the best if not the best association in St. Petersburg. these people in Lakewood do more for your neighbors than you could possibly know. so while you have the choice to hide and ridicule, we choose to get off our behinds and help clean up our neighborhood and help one another. we all have struggles, it doesn't mean we can keep our homes, yards and vehicles in disarray because we don't feel like taking care of things. under the leadership of the association we have found help for many of the folks here that can't afford or are ill or old to do some things for themselves. so before you go running off on your keyboard about us, I suggest you join us and help make things better if you don't like the way things are. nothing my friend is perfect in this world and neither are you. making accusations against something you seem to nothing about is rather futile don't you think? looking forward to meeting you at the next meeting, that would be in January.
Unfortunately, the trash was not picked up by Sanitation. People were stopping and rummaging through it, making it more of an eyesore. Since my garbage bin was empty since our
pickup was Wednesday, I rolled the bin down to the rubble and filled it to overflowing.
The issue has been resolved.
We received an email from our sanitation inspector telling us this mess would be picked up "tomorrow," which was several days ago. Something fell through the cracks - they are usually much more efficient. Thank you for dealing with this.
Update from Sanitation: thank you for your post, Mr. Jones, and for helping to resolve this issue. Our apologies that our crew was unable to clear the reported area when we had hoped. Please call us or post here if items are dumped here in the future and we will do our best to respond in a more timely manner. Thank you again.
Thank you Davey Jones for cleaning that up. I drive by there every day and was going to drag my can down there and clean it up myself if it was there much longer. You are a good man Charlie Brown.
Picking up the trash that blows in our yards is very different than cleaning up illegal dumping. The city needs to be made aware of when and where illegal dumping occurs, and be cleaned up by people who are trained to safely remove what may be potentially hazardous material. Just a minor scratch could lead to a very serious infection.
40 years and never attended a neighborhood meeting. Hmmm.
Complains about neighbors, but doesn't report them to appropriate agencies, expects LECA pres to do it all. Hmmm.
Sits back and waits for "others" to take care of problems. Hmmm
Nope, I can't see son of showing up for a meeting, but if son did, son would be in the company of one, as the people who attend these meetings are not whiny sarcastic hecklers who hide behind their technology, but people who are pro- active positive people working together to keep Lakewood Estates a shining example of what a neighborhood should be.

Davey, do not apologize for not cleaning up this mess. A pile of junk like that is not your job. For all you know, there is haz-mat in there.
The person who suggested you do this is chronically critical of the items posted on this site - he probably never has a nice day.
