Description
Due to the proximity of the 2 traffic lights at this intersection, I've seen multiple cars run the light at Summit and Main. Others in the neighborhood have reported similar occurrences and I know of at least 2 neighbors who've been in accidents there. It's only a matter of time before there is a fatality. At the very least, change the timing of the lights so they are in sync.

Monday morning I observed a red buick sedan cruise right through the red at summit in order to stop only one car length past the intersection behind a line of cars at depot.
Both lights were red. How much more in synch can the lights be and what is the city supposed to do about heedless drivers anyway?
On top of that, this is an MDOT road and the city doesn't run it.
Bad enough that the speed limit is now insanely high - sheesh!
I love this site and it serves a good purpose as long as no one imagines that the world can be repaired on it.

While I appreciate your comments, especially in pointing out that this issue should be taken up with MDOT, and agree the city can't fix poor driving, surely this site at least provides a means to record citizens' concerns about a traffic light within the boundaries of the city. Does this ever get passed on to MDOT via Ann Arbor government? I don't know, but it seems a reasonable to let the city know it should be discussed. If an Ann Arbor official responds saying not to waste my breath on this site for these issues, then I will turn my attention elsewhere.
The two accidents I'm familiar with were both caused by the offending drivers seeing one light green and not seeing the other red, so it most definitely is a factor. In previous cities I have lived, intersections with these dynamics always had higher accident rates. Bad drivers blow red lights, everyone knows that, but you would have to acknowledge that light timing/visibility/speed play important factors and should be addressed.
One final point to address yours. The original post clearly serves a reasonable and good purpose, and that is to point out something worthy of further inspection. Something tangible, singular, and concrete. This is not a meta discussion of the deer cull, taxes, or other higher level topics. No one imagines (certainly not me) there's a magic fix. I understand it's not as temporally relevant as a missed trash pickup, but if it's directly pertinent to the myriad of people who live in the neighborhood that travel through this intersection frequently, why not bring it up?
