Description

Saw light cycle go through two cycles without issuing Pierson street to MacArthur a green light at all. Same thing happened on morning of 2/27/24. People end up running red light to get through intersection.

Note that this intersection of Pierson and MacArthur is challenging in the mornings because the timing of the adjacent traffic lights (MacArthur / buell & MacArthur / Richards into Mills college) creates a scenario where the following sequence happens.
- MacArthur / Buell turns red for MacArthur bound drivers, while MacArthur / Pierson remains green and MacArthur / Richard’s also remains green. This stacks people up on MacArthur, and invariably this loads up the intersection of MacArthur/ Pierson, leaving no space for folks turning onto MacArthur from Pierson
-once the light for MacArthur / Pierson gets repaired (see ticket for 2/28/24 saying “green light not operating for Pierson to MacArthur”), the timing needs to be improved. I suggest timing the MacArthur/ Richard’s intersection so it will keep the MacArthur traffic stopped BEFORE the people turning from Pierson onto MacArthur get a green. This way, there will be at least 4 cars of room for folks turning from Pierson onto MacArthur heading towards Buell. Otherwise, you get traffic jams, and it’s because the folks like myself are irritated seeing the intersection get filled up with zero space to go, thus waiting another light cycle, and repeating the whole thing next light cycle, with even more folks backed up on Pierson.

Don’t believe me, go have a look 7:45-9:00am Monday - Friday.
