Thanks for this info Donna. I understand that wet turf/grass is an issue if one has to go in and move the equipment with heavy trucks. That said, it seems like a different method could be found so that people could use the park in the winter without having to look at this junk all the time. I mean it's April (4 months after the light show ended) and we're still having to look at the light display for CBS 5 news for instance. Honestly I have started avoiding the park as much as possible because its depressing to use the park road for walking or running with this stuff strewn everywhere. Might it not be time to rethink the'festival of lights' use permit, to at least update it so that they don't dominate our park for half the year? (from setup in November to take down in April that's 6 months of the year that they are in there).

Request #80250 was sent to DPW Parks to attend to this issue.

I did send this over to Tom Baptist, Park Superintendent, he will be responding as well. They are working with the park crew and golf crew to make sure that the lawns are not destroyed. It is a big issue. Many ball fields are not ready for the season yet as well due to the ground being saturated. But he did let me know that this is a current issue for him that he is working on. Really, hopefully next year it can be removed sooner. I have driven by the "exit" of the display and did notice that the display was still up.....

Thanks Donna, I appreciate this follow up and your passing this on to Tom Baptist. The 'Friends' group is aware of what's happening in the southwest corner of the park in the woods with the destroyed trail but I'm not sure they really care or get the issue. I'm really not sure what the point of going to NRZ meetings and Friends group meetings is if there's no accountability and no competent people to actually do/oversee the work in our parks. Just took a walk through the destroyed trail in Goodwin's southwest corner and they appear to just keep making it worse. It's really a shame that this part of the park has been destroyed. When asked people in Hartford always rave about the parks as one of the best things we have, me included; but the City treats them so, so poorly it's really a shame and belies the parks as a reason to live here. Just passing on some frustrations of an actual parks user. I don't understand the incestuous political culture here enough to know how we'll go about changing this.
