Description

These have been placed along maple north of dexter. They’re dangerous as they’re black and can be difficult to see during the day. Please remove them.

These are to prevent conflict with cyclists at intersections. However, I agree black is a bad color for them.

Please don't get rid of them, I feel much safer with them as a bicyclist. but a different color or some other way to make them stand out during the day would be nice.

Given the state of our brightly-colored reflective posts all over town compared to the black bollards I've seen in other cities, I doubt these are going to be hit any more frequently. Might be a good opportunity to do a comparative study.

They also have lights built in which I assume absorb the sunlight through the day. Honestly the only way you’re not seeing this is if you’re not paying attention or speeding.

What does "Lights built in" mean? There are reflective strips which are visible at night when headlights reflect off them. I'm on this road daily and find these black bollards are not very visible during the day.

No, those are solar lights. If it were just reflectors, you wouldn’t notice unless your headlights were bouncing off them.

Bjorn Arnesen, I drove on N. Maple this evening. The bollards definitely have reflective tape (not solar lights as you say) and are only visible if light is directed at them. These yellow are across from Speedway; there is no reflection because no light shining on this side. Other side is reflecting brightly though. It is the same for the black bollards with silver tape at other points on the street. No reflection if light not shining on them.

Black bollard at dusk without any lights shining on it. Notice the alleged "solar light" is not on. Because it's actually reflective tape and nothing is shining on it from this angle.

@Ann Alan, I had thought the bollards on Liberty at W Stadium had solar lights because I saw them shining bright with no light directly on them. However, my ride home this morning had no such light.

I was driving last night in misty, foggy conditions.The black bollards were not reflecting much at all and very difficult to see from any distance. Again, it is unclear why all the bollards on this road are not yellow.
