I think the issue is that there is a long time storage of bike(s) and debris here. Perhaps we could resolve that before adding bike racks.

Long term storage on bike racks is a problem in other parts of the park, but not here.

The issue is that bike racks were an afterthought, and they just installed a few single poles here and there along the length of the path. There should be a large bike storage area off the path near the library door.

I heard in the 2018 ticket that library leadership opposed installing more racks. We, the public to whom the city answers, need to protest this.

I don't think it's a long term storage issue. 3 bikes arrived at the same time as me this morning, but a bunch were empty and non doubled. They are filling up as a stand here....

Given the size of the library and the nearby high school bike parking is clearly not sufficient. I only visit the library on a bicycle, and while I can usually find an empty spot, it can be difficult.

This area is a major community space with the high school, library, rec center, theater and park. It has underground parking for cars, but no covered bike parking. A well lit, covered space could easily be but somewhere in the broad community area- behind the library, next to Cambridge Street between War Memorial & theater... By making bike parking safer ( including not damaging the bike through exposure to rain) and more convenient (it's really hard to park a cargo bike in many of the bike racks installed) the City shows commitment to supporting multi model transportation options and also frees up important parking space for people who must drive (elderly, disabled, people coming from long distances).

The covered bike parking is critical for those who might park in this area on a daily basis in all weather. A large number of CRLS students commute by bike and some faculty and staff do as well. Library staff also need a place to park bikes. And then, of course, library patrons and War Memorial patrons need to park bikes. When there is adequate library car parking but not bike parking, this needlessly discourages biking to the library.

If Cambridge wants residents to bike then we need more safe and easily accessible bike parking, especially for high schoolers! Please install more weather-appropriate (covered) bike parking for CRLS students, many of whom bike throughout the school year (or would like to, if it were easy and safe to lock up their bikes near the school).

As the city adds more bike lanes--including much of Cambridge St. this year--there will likely be more students seeking to bike to school. It would be great to offer safe, easily accessible bike parking protected from the elements to accommodate the growing number of bikes and to encourage continued growth in cycling.
