Description
Got notice of this issue, ID 13166784, that says it was addressed and the open work order has been closed. But what was addressed? What work. Nothing has changed at the scene. "Sidewalk here is uneven hex block lower than the existing landscape of broken shells and dirt so the sidewalk is not only uneven, but covered in broken shells all the time. The neighboring location, 3128 Dr MLK Jr St N, is also old asphalt and usually covered with a layer of sand/shells and deteriorating asphalt. There is new sidewalk on either side of these two properties, and it would be nice to have a clean smooth sidewalk running the entire way for walking, wheelchairs and bikes. There is no bike lane along this section of MLK so the sidewalk gets a lot of use."

Thank you both for reaching out with this. I agree the verbiage used when closing the original request was misleading as no action was taken. I believe the request was closed because our Community Service Representative noted no maintenance issues with the sidewalk when conducting a site visit in August 2022. Since this issue is now north of a year old, I'll come out, take a look at the entire area, take some additional photos, and then sit down with our Pavement Maintenance team to discuss the next move. In the interim, please feel to reach out to me directly at the following:

Thanks again!

*Update* I conducted a site visit and found several areas where the hex pavers are cracked, uneven, and there is evidence of root intrusion. I'll forward this request to our Pavement Maintenance Team for action.
I also found several areas where material from the adjacent property is washing into the sidewalk. Per the City of St. Petersburg's Municipal Code, it is the responsibility of the owner to ensure the sidewalk in front of their property remains clear of debris. This includes ensuring material-mulch, dirt, sand, vegetation, etc.-from private property is not entering into the public right-of-way.
Our Pavement Maintenance Team will address the sidewalk damage, and I will work with our Community Service Representatives to ensure the property owner is aware of their obligation. Again, thank you for reaching out to us!
