Description

The painted warning markings on the speedbump at this location are worn off (as they get worn off every winter with plowing). The city has no effective system in place to proactively inspect and maintain these markings, so every spring we have to use seeclickfix to report that the markings have worn off, and wait several weeks for the DPW to come and repaint the markings. This is a particularly big problem right now, because this past weekend, some drunken students thought it would be an excellent idea to steal the speed bump warning sign on the south side of the street (facing east).

As it is, even with the markings and the signs in place, many drivers do not have adequate advance warning (or fail to heed the warnings) and many cars speed up and down the street, with their chassis crashing down on the far side of the speed bump. The speed bump warning signs were installed in the middle or right at the beginning of the bumps, so drivers have little or no advanced warning. To make matters worse, the sign post on the north side of the street is partially blocked by a utility pole and crab apple trees as you approach from the east going westbound, so that sign is largely ineffective. We have complained about the improper placement of these warning signs repeatedly to DPW, and nothing has been done about it.
