This is a positive change for what is otherwise a really high speed turn with extremely poor and faded markings that encourages drivers to cut right to the curb as they turn right, creating a pinch point for anyone not in a car - especially cyclists commuting to sequoia elementary.
The bump out slows traffic because it INTENTIONALLY makes the road more challenging to navigate *at speed* but is not an issue for vehicles going an appropriate speed and with due regard for other road users. It should be permanent and Oakland should have many more of these effective traffic calming measures.

There are many routes to 580 from Oakmore neighborhood that utilize wider streets. I'm not sure how thin-bollards with generous spacing would cause a head on collision. There's sufficient visibility to see traffic approaching. Unless someone intends to make the turn at an unreasonable speed. perhaps cars shouldn't be parked on either side of the street.
this carve out seems like it has successfully slowed down motor vehicle speeds and made walking to school much calmer through this awkward intersection.

This intersection shouldn't be optimized for potential freeway traffic, as it is in a residential neighborhood with a lot of kids.
Oncoming traffic in other directions has a stop sign. If head-on collisions are a risk with parked cars on either side of Lyman, then some of the on-street parking could be removed to improve safety.

Ardita - vehicle traffic is impacted in the name of pedestrian safety and that seems like an acceptable trade off.
That said, I heard that the plan is to close the street to through traffic anyways so this is temporary
