Today is a city holiday because of election day, so that may be why it is extra difficult tonight.
You might want to post this under parking as well. Goodluck.

The police app, word on the street, does not respond to anything (theft? nope. noise complaints? nope. safety issues? nope.) except issuing parking tickets, where they are pretty responsive. Agreed today might be an exception b/c of the city holiday though.
No one wants to drive around for an hour (I've done it many times) whether they have kids or something or someone else at home they want to come home to; that's certainly not unique to being a caregiver to a child. I think my record was 2.5 hours, before we started paying for a lot, and at that point it would have made more sense to park far away and walk, except for carrying things with me.
While I am actually very happy they have instituted permit parking in our zone, the way it works isn't ideal. I've lived here for 7 years, but my driver's license is not synced up with this address (JC is my domicile but you can have more than one legal residence and I travel for work) which means I can't get a permit, even though I can easily prove residency, and so I pay a small fortune to park in a lot that is a far walk from my apartment and not very safe for cars or people. And then the amount of permits issued to folks who work nearby at the schools means there's still way too little parking for the need. Add on how our flawed dedicated handicap spot system (there are multiple reserved spots on my block where the person with the handicap placard has moved and someone else uses the spot, or the person with the disability parks elsewhere and their family uses the spot as a reserved spot instead...parking spots aren't fungible) and it's all a mess.
JC parking is a NIGHTMARE.
I know sometimes you can approach a neighbor with a driveway and they'll let you pay them to park there. It's sad when it comes to that, but if you have any such neighbor, might be worth it anyway.

Agreed WOTS is not best at responding. However i do understand it depends on time of day, what day, the type of complaint, etc. They must pick and choose priority calls. Friday night noise complaints at the bottom of the list. Robberies, assaults and gsw take high priority. I reported a guy walking in the middle of JFK at 2am on a Wednesday, he was screaming "Help me" in Spanish. Within 3 mins police were there and called an ambulance who took him. So it does work, just depends.
I agree again, no one EVER wants to drive around in circles for x number of hrs. I purposely try my best to get home early, weekends included (if i know i will be late i take a cab or uber), just to find parking. Obviously this is not feasible for everyone.
Im not sure if you're still paying for a lot, im guessing no if you drove around last night in circles. But if you do decide to pay for a space again, i suggest you unload quickly (yea double park just like everyone else but who wants to walk x number of blocks with grocery bags, etc.). If you have a partner with u that would be even more helpful as one can unload and the other finds parking. If you are looking for a parking space again I can recommend 2 I know on Fairmount (prices are pre-pandemic and parking can have a waiting list). The music studio on 430 Fairmount, they charge $125 a mth. Also the lot behind the woman's club 375 Fairmount for $150 a mth. The club to me is the best option, they clear the snow and put salt down. And it has assigned spots. And yes, there's a few other private residences on that block and many others around that rent their driveway. Keep your eyes out for signs or ask around.
I don't understand how you said "which means I can't get a permit, even though I can easily prove residency, and so i pay a small fortune to park in a lot....". What??!! So why were you driving in circles for 1 hr last night if you pay a small fortune to park in a lot??? Not sure where you're parking your car that you don't feel safe walking home. But i do think you can apply for non-resident pass which is $500 for the year or $125 for 90days. I highly suggest you go to the parking authority (394 Central Ave) and try to talk only to the young brunette, she is extremely, extremely helpful. If you work.in JC, even easier to fix. Again only talk to the young brunette, im sorry i didn't get her name, she's extremely efficient but helpful.
As to the school's, that is ridiculous! They ALL have employee private parking lots. You've lived here for 7 years and haven't noticed the employee parking lots?
If you witness a vehicle parked in a designated handicap space and the plates dont match, take a photo and report it immediately on this forum under: Traffic Reserved Handicap Parking Issues. You can post the photo when making your complaint, which will be useful. Unfortunately sometimes this can backfire especially when it's family using a spot because they also can have a disability. Because of time, money whatever, it's easier to use "Mom's" spot. Then they get a violation and next thing you see is 2 consecutive handicap spaces, taking up even more parking spaces.
Agreed JC parking is a nightmare! It would be easier if they painted parking lines because no one seems to know how to park properly!!!
