Due to homeowners foliage, the stop sign is obscured until you are almost upon it.
  • 94th St And Harding Ave Surfside, Florida - Surfside
This happens all the time, night and day.. sometimes they even honk those who obey the sign. Maybe the sign is not large enough or people need to get tickets here.

  • 1101 Brickell Ave Miami, Florida - Downtown
I would like to complain about the valet parking of this building, situated at 1101 Brickell Ave. They have taken the sidewalk to park cars, and are constantly obstructing pedestrians. This is a public space for pedestrians; it is sidewalk for God Sake...not a parking lot.

    November 14, 2016

My wife, Jo F Schatterman, was hit and killed while attempting to cross the Gulf of Mexico Drive on Longboat Key with her sister on January 27, 2012. My wife and I are seasonal residents of Florida with a condo 20335 W Country Club Drive, Aventura, Florida, and were visiting her sister and brother-in-law at the time of the accident. I was instructed by my attorney not to contact the State of Florida, the County or Sarasota or the City of Longboat Key while the lawsuit was ongoing. The Law suite was finalized during August 2016.

My wife and her sister had gotten off the north bound Sarasota County bus at a designated buss stop and were attempting to cross the Gulf of Mexico Drive to my wife’s sisters condo when the accident occurred. The driver of the vehicle that hit my wife was not charged with anything since there was no credible witness to confirm whether his headlights were on and if he was speeding at the time of the accident. There was an article in the Sarasota newspaper and the Longboat Observer describing the accident.

I believe the State of Florida, Sarasota County and the City of Longboat Key should do more to improve the safety of pedestrians crossing the Gulf of Mexico Drive after exiting from north bound busses. I recommend that a cross walk with some type of stop or warning light that can be activated by pedestrians be installed at all north bound buss stops on the Gulf of Mexico Drive where pedestrians need to cross the road. I believe that would provide safe passage for buss riders or pedestrians that need to cross the road to get to their condos on the West Side of the road.

    Sincerely,

    Tom Schatterman
