Could an off-leash dog park be added to Arundel Hills Park? This park is not very busy. There are no dog parks in the Glen Burnie area.

There is a safety concern at the back corner of one of the large dog enclosures. Our dog escaped from one of the lots. The far back corner has an ill-fitted gate with a large gap big enough for large dogs to fit under and escape. Again this is a safety concern. This was reported 6 months ago, appears it has not been fixed. Until it can be fixed, could we get an interim solution such as a large barrier. Thank you in advance.

The Women’s Club of Linthicum Heights who host concerts in the park are driving, parking and allowing others to do the same on non paved areas of the park in violation of Anne Arundel County Parks Rules and Regulations - Article 14 during Concerts in the Park. This behavior creates an unsafe environment for anyone using the park facilities well before the event starts. Having vehicles driving through the park also damages the grass and other areas.

  • Lake Shore MD, USA - Lake Shore

There are an EXTREMELY DANGEROUS amount of bees and wasps overtaking the entire Lake Shore Athletic Complex. For tonight’s episode, Field C, my son, and 2 other player siblings, including a newborn baby, were stung at different areas of the field. As we walk to the snack shack to get some ice, there are 2 grown men staring at a trash can deseperately needing to be emptied but SWARMING with Bees. None wanting to risk a sting (understandably), but they just @#$% them off to go sting the next person. Last week, it was field B.. this past spring there were FULL BLOWN HORNETS NESTS under bleachers absolutely tormenting spectators.
We are BEGGING.. PLEADING .. to PLEASE spray, exterminate, ALL OF IT before one of these kids go into anaphylactic shock. This is absolutely insane for this amount of aggressive bees/hornets to be this prominent on a YOUTH athletic complex.

    PLEASE HELP!!

The playground at Rock Creek Park has overgrown weeds all throughout the mulch causing tripping hazards for children. The weeds have also caused an excessive amount of bugs at the playground.

Baby/toddler swing is attached unevenly at the bottom causing the baby to not be able to sit level in the seat and the swing therefore sways lopsided. Could also use some more oil.

I would like to know if Mr. Pittman's office is working to ensure the public will have access to the trails at Greenbury Point. I would like to know who is deciding when the trails are open and why they are primarily closed now. Also, would like to know who decided that a gate needs to be in place to further limit access to this public land. Why isn't the County trying to keep this water access available to the public?
  • Freetown Elementary School - Glen Burnie

I have concerns about the area around Freetown Elementary school. This interface would not allow me to isolate the specific elements of discussion do I have packaged in in my presentation. This was originally sent to the School principal (Amanda Edmonds) who sent it to the county.

My name is Myron Abernathy. I reside at 206 Tessing Court in Glen Burnie which is located one block in front of your school (Site #1). There are matters that I wish to bring to your attention.

Note: The specific locations are identified on the attached presentation (Freetown Elem.png). The attachment was properly scanned before being attached.

For the past 10 years, I along with my family have picked up trash and debris around the school and in the adjacent field. I have placed trashcans along the field to have people dispose of their trash (Sites #2).

I empty the cans monthly and placed new trash bags in the cans. For the most part, people are using the cans.

Additionally, there is a long stretch of grass in front of the school along the fence line (Site#3). I and my family for the past 10 years have cut and trimmed the grass in the spring and summer. I am currently outsourcing the work to a private contractor who is cutting the grass.

Finally, we used our snow blower to clear the sidewalks along that fence line, and down the street from Tessing Court to give the children a clear path to school (Site #3). We even cleared the walking path during two major snowstorms from the back street asphalt path to the school playground to allow children to cross the field to get to the school.

Because of a recent major medical operation, and physical limitations, I can no longer perform these tasks or continue paying the contractor every two weeks to cut the grass.

I raised this issue with AA County in March 2023 who responded that this was a board of education problem and not a county problem and they closed the inquiry.

Here is the bottom line: I take pride in the appearance of our neighborhood. I believe in the safety of the residents, and do not want to see this historic neighborhood become an eyesore. I am not looking for recognition nor financial reimbursement; that is not who I am. I do want my efforts to continue now that I can no longer perform the tasks.

    Proposals:
    1. Expand the landscaping contractor’s scope for the field to cover the grass along the fence (Site 3). As I understand it, it is their responsibility, but it is never done.

    2. Either leave the trash cans (Sites #2) in place and empty the cans and change bags monthly or remove the cans and have the county place a trash dispenser in the current location and have someone move the dispensers to the street and be officially designated as a trash pickup location (Tuesdays and Fridays).

    3. Have the contractor that clears the snow to expand their coverage to include the sidewalk along the fence line (Site 3) and along the existing asphalt path to the back fence.

Unrelated to my efforts but as a long-term resident, I would like to see the following things done in the areas around the field and school:

    1. Request a powerful streetlight (Site 5) is needed along the tree line on the southwest part of the field near the raised hump for two reasons:

    a. In 2015 while I was walking my dog at night, a woman was being raped and screaming for help. I could not see where they were because they were below the hump, in the dark, and out of sight (Site 4). As I ran to the sound of the screams yelling for the aggressor to stop, all I could see was shadow of a man pulling up his pants and dragging the girl off the field and into in a car. I called the police, but the two people were long gone by the time they got to the field. I addressed the lack of light at the time with the police, but nothing happened.

    b. Many people cross the field coming from the bus stop to their neighborhood. The path that they take is not lit once they reach the asphalt path.

    2. Request an asphalt path be established from Freetown Road to intersect with the current asphalt path (Sites 7). Recommend that the new path (Site 7) is also cleared by the contractor responsible for clearing the snow.

    3. The indented areas around the school and the basketball courts are being used for drug transactions and prostitution. I have seen it. A light is needed (Site 7) in those enclaves (especially the basketball court) and the cameras in those areas need a stronger presence to ensure the participants of those activities are aware they are being recorded.

    4. More signs are placed around the area encouraging people to pick up after their dogs.

That is all I have. I am happy to meet with you to show you specific areas of concern. My phone number is 703-867-8129.

In advance, thank you for taking the time to read my concerns. I look forward to future communication with you.
