Bedford Street - Closed for Three Weeks

Bedford Street Closed for Three Weeks as Part of Sewer Separation ProjectClosure starts August 13 at 7 AM; both lanes expected to reopen to thru traffic on September 1
PORTLAND, Maine -- Beginning Monday, August 13, 2018, the City will be closing Bedford Street as part of the Bedford Street Sewer separation project for three weeks. The closure will occur from August 13 and August 31. Shaw Brothers, the City’s contractor, will be working 24 hours a day on Bedford Street with multiple crews to finish the underground utility work and repave the roadway during the closure. The urgency for this closure is so the City can reopen Bedford Street to two-way thru traffic before the University of Southern Maine’s fall semester begins on September 4.
IMPORTANT INFO FOR MOTORISTS: Bedford Street will be closed to inbound thru traffic from Deering Avenue to Forest Avenue from August 13 thru August 31. Outbound access from Forest Ave to Brighton Ave is already closed and will remain closed until August 31. Local access to all USM facilities and businesses on Bedford Street will remain open and accessible. Both lanes are expected to reopen on September 1.
The contractor will be working within this zone 24 hours a day for the next three weeks.
SEEK ALTERNATE ROUTE
Motorists will be required to seek alternate routes around the closure until the roadway is reopened.
