Sidewalk is shut down. No signage. No visible permit. No detour or accommodations for sidewalk users

The construction crew removed a large section of limestone curb and substantially expanded their curb cut. It also appears that they have converted a large portion of lawn into a parking pad. Could DPW confirm whether they had permission to enlarge their curb cut and convert former lawn into parking?

Champlain Housing Trust has a construction crew blocking the sidewalk with extremely dangerous signage placement directing children into the high speed traffic on Intervale Ave. I believe they have no permit for this closure. Could DPW confirm if CHT has a permit to close the sidewalk. The construction crew has also parked a different truck partially blocking the sidewalk on Decatur St.

Sidewalk parking at IAA in recent days has completely blocked this important route. The opposite sidewalk is under construction so there is literally no safe way for kids or their families to get to school.

Unpermitted sidewalk closure by Champlain Housing Trust. Vulnerable people are walking in the street because the sidewalk is blocked illegally. There is currently no signage and no workers on site so it is a completely needless sidewalk closure. The monthlong permitted closure expired yesterday so this sidewalk has been blocked for over a month with very little work anywhere near this important sidewalk.

Crosswalk needs plowing. City did great job but this is a high priority crossing.

This old hole in the greenbelt has been open for months. There is a metal plate half covering the hole and a traffic barrel on top but it is unsightly and a bit dangerous. Time to wrap up this job. Thanks for your attention.

DPW recycling workers left many blue bins in the Union Street protected bicycle lane. This is dangerous for bikers and undermines the work of DPW staff who installed and maintain the lanes.

This crosswalk consistently floods. This is outside the IAA so elementary school students and preschoolers have to get past this obstacle. Unfortunately that means some of them take a flying leap while looking down and others detour widely stepping into the traffic lane also while looking down at the puddle. In both cases they are in danger because they are not looking out for cars. This is not a snow issue since water drains to the left.

Two white bike lane protectors (curbs) were partially detached at #18 N Union. We kicked them back into place but they are only attached at one end. 11 am Wed Dec 13th.

This driver was delivering far around the corner on Grant St. and there were plenty of legal parking places available. I'd suggest that Public Works implement their plan to give this bicycle lane some protection from encroaching vehicles.

UPS drivers and most FedEx drivers are very good about not blocking the bike lanes. There are still a few bad apples like this guy who haven't gotten the message yet. This driver is long gone but the city does need to add some sort of protection to keep drivers from making dangerous choices like this.

A safe pedestrian detour would be extremely easy to design and implement here. Instead a complete blockage has been maintained for weeks. There is currently no signage whatsoever at the nearby corners. Children are literally squeezing between the construction dumpster and Rte. 7 traffic. Public Works, where are you on this?

Almost two months after this project started this section of sidewalk in the heart Burlington is still constantly shut down in a dangerously amateurish way. This is the approach to sidewalks that gets pedestrians killed and prevents the disabled and elderly from ever leaving their homes. Public Works, where are you on this?
  • 222 S Winooski Ave Burlington, Vermont - Burlington Electric
This sidewalk has been blocked for over a month. The signage is haphazard and especially problematic for the mobility impaired. The city has an obligation to maintain our pedestrian infrastructure. Public Works has managed this project in violation of the Americans With Disabilities Act and in violation of its own policies.

An improperly placed sign blocks access to the bus shelter at the food shelf. Wheelchair access to essential services must not be blocked. The city policies to prevent this were not followed. (Of course it is possible that a non city employee moved the sign.)

This was previously issue 2512916. Multiple garbage cans were left out on the greenbelt for over a year. Code resolved the issue for about a week. Then the garbage cans were back as Issue ID: 2835995
RFS 12456. Again the landlord fixed the problem for a week. Now multiple garbage cans have been out for over a month. Every other resident and landlord does the right thing except this one landlord. Thanks for your help on this.

This was previously issue 2512916. Multiple garbage cans were left out on the greenbelt for over a year. The Code Office contacted the property manager and then contacted the landlord who promptly had the garbage cans moved. Now a garbage can has been out on the greenbelt for over a week. Everyone else in the neighborhood is very good about not letting this happen. Seems like this needs more attention. Thanks for keeping up the neighborhood.

This greenbelt is an illegal parking space. A few bollards or signposts would resolve this problem and make life safer for bikers and pedestrians.
