  • 152 Cherry Street Burlington, Vermont - Burlington Electric
This building has been empty and boarded up since OGE left in 2011. There are permits in the windows but no activity. How long is this supposed to be like this? It detracts from Cherry Street and adds to the other issues on that street with garbage and bad behavior and loitering.

This was the "fix" to a loose metal cover. It's been here now for months. It's difficult for wheelchairs and people with mobility issues to walk around, and it's ugly. How much longer before there's a permanent fix to the problem and this thing is gone?

This manhole cover in front of the Burton Store is loose and tipped up. It's a tripping hazard and looks like it could fall into the basement of that building. The building is owned by the Handy family.

These doors are loose and caving in. People are tripping over them and because they give way when walking on them, people are afraid. They take up so much of the sidewalk that they are hard to avoid walking on. These doors are right in front of Burton's store. The building is owned by the Handy family; the doors provide access to the basement of that building.

I reported this issue on June 5 and July 2 and I'm reporting it again as the situation has gotten more dangerous. This cover in front of the Merchants Bank Building is now falling into the basement of the building. The orange cones are gone and it is a serious hazard. I know that the cover is private property (The Handy family) but it is on a public sidewalk that is heavily travelled. The building is empty and no one uses that access to the basement. Does someone have to fall in before this is addressed? or does the cover have to completely plunge into the basement? - and I mean fixing it, not covering it with a piece of plywood......I think 2 months is long enough to have done repairs.

Water valve cover has been sheared off. It was actually open but I was able to flip the lid so someone wouldn't break an ankle. On the street at the northeast corner of College and St Paul.

First reported this on June 9, in the front of the former Merchants Bank building across from City Hall Park - someone put orange cones around it almost immediately (thanks!). However, as you can see from the photo, the actual problem hasn't been addressed, the cones are all over the place and the hazard is actually worse now. This is a much traveled sidewalk and people are having trouble walking past.
  • 148 Church Street Burlington, Vermont - Burlington Electric
This alley next to and behind the Scuffer continues to be a problem. I reported it 2 months ago and it was partially cleaned up. A huge pile of metal was never removed. The alley from Church Street is almost impassable with boxes of bottles, empty cardboard boxes and chairs. There's a lot of broken glass. Also, the outdoor lights haven't worked for a month so the alley is dark at night. Apartment tenants who are supposed to put their trash in the totes are afraid to do so because of the glass, trash, and no lighting. The problem seems to be caused by Scuffer.
