Orange Street is a mess. The block between Canner and Cold Spring Streets has not been touched. Cars stayed parked on the odd side and are still there, surrounded by snow. Who can give us some information about why this happened and when it will be addressed?

Does anyone know how to contact a human in the DPW or DOT to find out if plowing (and parking ban) will be continued into this week?

Agreed. My block of Lawrence (between Livingston and Whitney) was completely clear of parked cars on the odd side for the entire week. We still have HUGE snow banks on the odd side and it is - as others have already stated - literally a one-way street. Many other streets in East Rock are also like this. Most East Rock residents complied with parking bans so that we could get our narrow streets cleared and we were completely blown off by the City. Disgraceful!

The city should have not made promises they couldn't keep. Going through neighborhoods on bullhorns proclaiming snow removal 2morrow and waking people out of their sleep then never having the plows show is just plain bad management of resources and helps perpetuate non-complaince of these ridiculously semi-enforced "parking bans"

Just do it.

Please call your Alders to have a snow plan implemented by next winter. We need a written directive.

I thought we were going to get pay-loaders to remove snow up to the curb. Never happened on my street or most locations in my area. I observed the ban for most of the week while some neighbors, including the ones without resident parking permits, parked pretty much wherever they wanted. The street is more passable now, and parking on both sides is possible, thanks more to the mild temperatures and rain than to actual snow removal. Plows always came by during the storms and kept the street open. But the clean up promised to us never came.

To add insult to injury, Mayor Harp just called. Her recording thanked the residents of the city for our patience and help- it allowed the crews to clear the snow. She didn't say where though.

This is completely shameful. East Rock is routinely IGNORED after snow storms, probably because we don't have revenue-generating parking meters. Many other narrow streets in East Rock completely ignored, snow not removed, etc. Orange Street, the MAIN STREET running through East Rock, is filled with cars still buried in snow. Crosswalks everywhere are piled high with snow because of the plows. Amazing!! More snow on the way possibly this week ... get with it New Haven. Harp is a joke.

As a new resident of the Elm City, I've been completely and utterly disappointed with this snow debacle. There's a handful of basic services that a city should be able to maintain even through a new administration. Trash collection, utilities, SNOW REMOVAL, etc. I live on a snow emergency route, so moving my car has been routine since the first flurries of the season fell. Yet even on my street, the city has struggled at times to maintain safe conditions. From reading about the ban in the Indy the night before the ban would supposedly begin, then having the details change so many times, then trying in vain to find more info on the city's website and snow emergency line, to finally getting the text alert some 10 hours late and have the plows not actually clear my neighborhood on the designated day. Simply inept.

Canner Street remains one lane with no sign of plows / signs. We are listed "To Be Scheduled" on the city website, but there is no date. There is also no easily-found information if the original "curb to curb" plan has been aborted. Our neighbors have done a great job of taking advantage of the warm weather to de-ice their sidewalks, but the snow mounds still limit visibility at intersections. It seems quite dangerous with 3 schools within 3 blocks of Orange and Canner.

Tonight we got a self-congratulatory robocall from Mayor Harp thanking everyone in the City who did such a great job of getting the streets cleaned up; she also reminded us to move our cars because schools is back in session tomorrow morning.
I guess the Mayor hasn't been over to the East Rock area in the last few days. Many of the streets show little, or no improvement. On our block of Linden Street (between Orange and Livingston), you couldn't even tell on Saturday morning that any plowing had been done since there were still huge mounds of snow at several locations and there was no place it was plowed to the curb on the odd-numbered side. This is the reward for everyone who followed instructions and kept their cars off that side of the street for five or six days? When we came home late last night, cars were again parked on both sides and it appears unlikely that a fire truck --or a snow plow -- could get through. Oh yes, Linden Street was not designated a "narrow street" worthy of plowing on both sides, even though it is about the same width (and much narrower on the section between Foster and Orange) as our neighboring streets, Avon and Cottage, both of which received the magical designation that might result in emergency vehicles being able to get through.
Although I don't think this adminsitration is any more incompetent than the 20-year reign of the former Mayor for Life, it certainly hasn't been impressive in its first two months, and it's quite a disappointment. Seems like deja vu, all over again.
I invite the Mayor and the Public Works director to come to this neighborhood and assure themselves that the job has been done.

I thought I just posted this comment, but I don't see it. I did contact our Alder, Anna Festa, who is also being promised action that never happens. She suggested writing a letter to the mayor and CC-ing Doug Hauslauden, TTP, doug Arndt, DPW, Jennifer Pugh, acting CAO, and Rick Fontana, emergency operations. Also, there is an East Rock Community Management team meeting tomorrow night at 7pm, East Rock School, in the library. Doug Hauslauden will be there- a good chance to ask questions and demand answers.

We don't have revenue generating parking meters but we pay astronomical taxes. One term for Harp.

I did touch base with our Alder, Anna Festa. She too has been promised action that never materializes. She did recommend that everyone write a letter to the mayor and CC department heads Doug Hauslauden, TTP, Doug Arndt, DPW, Jennifer Pugh, acting CAO, and Rick Fontana, director of emergency operations. In addition, tomorrow night at 7pm there is an East Rock Community Management Team meeting in the Library of East Rock School. Doug Hauslauden will be there. A significant turnout might impress him with how dissatisfied we are as a neighborhood, especially considering that our tax burden is the highest in the city. Anna sends out newsletters and is accessible, she's still new and getting on the job experience.
