Description
Over a year later and the Lake Hyde issue is continuing to worsen! Last winter a large group of potholes developed, and we still get a huge lake after rain. Is a storm drain going to be added here? Filling the potholes would be helpful to our cars, but it is a band aid fix--once the water that seeps between the asphalt layers freezes, the potholes will get bigger, and the frozen lake is a mess in winter. We need a storm drain installed, or maybe the road could be raised so water drains away from this area. Thanks!

Hi Mark & Annie,
Thanks for reaching out. Hyde Street is not on the 2018-2019 Capital paving list. The puddle has been assessed and ranked, and according to the most recently updated puddle list, there are currently 13 other sites that rank higher in severity that are in need of attention. We're doing our best to allocate our limited resources to these puddle issues within our capital budget needs - a significant component of which is coordinating work with paving. We don't have a final paving list for next year, but will continue to work through addressing the puddle problems as we are able, and as site conditions allow.
I appreciate your patience here!

Hi Annie,
Last week we received a preliminary plan for a potential stormwater retrofit on Hyde Street. This was the first bit of progress we've really made since I responded a few months ago. I haven't updated yet because there are still a number of steps we will need to take in order to determine whether or not stormwater improvements are even feasible there - including characterizing soils (sandy or clay), and locating the underground utilities. From there, we will still need to figure out how that work needs to coordinate with other work potentially planned for Hyde.
The paving program is actively working on ironing out their paving list for the next fiscal year. The paving schedule can shift a lot more than other programs, because the condition of pavement can change substantially over a single season. Our goal is to coordinate with other programs like paving, traffic calming, and water/sewer repairs, in order to minimize disruptions to residents, businesses, and visitors.
All of that said, we're doing our best to prioritize maintenance and repair requests as they come in. My initial comment was not intended to be dismissive, I just want to be clear that the City is working to balance our resources across many priority areas. Again, I appreciate your patience while we work through our planning process. Once I have a clear update, I will make sure to update this issue accordingly.

I see there are a number of issues related to the potholes on Hyde. I appreciate the updates to all of them but it would be nice if we could merge issues and follow just one?
Also, this is probably not the place for this request, but, the potholes provide a nice traffic calming effect. I would hope that when the potholes are fixed that another traffic calming feature will be implemented.
Thanks!
