I agree with Paul - the leaf pickup program is expensive and I don't think we should be spending more money off it. If people followed the law and kept their leaves off the road, there wouldn't be as much of a problem. Perhaps an enforcement program with citations?

It's easier to mulch your leaves in place with a lawnmower than it is to blow or rake them. The NCSU agriculture extension service recommends this if you check out their material on growing fescue. I think we should be encouraging this.

This issue came up at the MCAC meeting last fall, it seems to be a recurring issue for many people.

Yes. More lead pickups please. It's a bit insane to have leaves by the road for 2 months between pickups. Where I moved from they picked up yard waste weekly. Seems like a lot but if you think about it they get it as you generate it and don't let it pile up for weeks. Let's the crews move much faster through the neighborhoods.

I am not saying we need to switch to weekly. But every other week is not un easonable. Even Monthly would be huge improvement.

I suggest you hire a landscaping company. The current collection method is more than adequate.

We do need more pickups in certain neighborhoods. I think we should have more pickups especially since we have a 40+ year tradition of luminaries on Christmas Eve.

I do not need landscape company. I can get my leaves to the curb just fine. The issue as reported was the concern over leaves piling up in the streets and sidewalks. Walkers have to go around piles of leaves, bicycle lanes fill up with leaves, mail UPS and Fedex are impacted. Plus the rain does not run off well and leaves are swept into the storm drains causing issues there. And it could be a fire hazard during a dry season.

If we fine everyone who illegally piles their leaves in the streets and on the sidewalks, we could fund lots of pickups!

I just drive over piles of leaves if they are in the street. They shouldnt be there so Im gonna make work for you.

@ Christian Groner- If your leaves are piling up, hire a landscaping company to take them. As others have stated, this program is too expensive.

Christian, I agree that the leaves in the street are a hazard. It is against the law to place your leaves there. Why should the rest of the city be on the hook to remove everyone's yard litter - which is only a public nuisance due to the illegal placement?

Good points about the regulations. I am however wondering about the cost issue. Say it takes 100 truck loads to haul one neighborhoods worth of leaves for the season. So with two pick-ups that is 50 truck loads in November and 50 more in January. With 4 picks-ups it would be 25 trucks in Oct, 25 in Nov, 25 in Dec and 25 in Jan. Overall it's the same amount of leaves and the same amount of truck loads.

Now I by no means know what it costs for pick-up and maybe my thinking off. But I think the cost difference would be a lot less then it seems.

This year has been the poorest leaf service in the past 30 years. The leaves have been a nuisance to everyone for the past two months, blowing all over the place, rotting, washing into the storm sever, people putting then in their garbage barrels which sends them to the landfill.
Please add a third leaf pick up each fall.

Is it part of the City Code that residents put their leaves on the curb? Because it is not happening and often it is the landscaping companies that just blow the leaves in the street. Can the city issue citations for blocking the street? if so, please do it!

Leaves have to be on private property NOT public street or sidewalk or blocking right of way. its so bad this year I see them everywhere blocking parking, sidewalks, streets

The City does ask everyone to keep leaves out of the street, but this is very difficult to enforce, partially due to the significant amount of leaves that fall here in the City of Oaks and also the issue of documenting this activity.
