Why don't you just walk up Dorset and cross in front of the school instead of spending taxpayer money to save you 3 minutes

Clarification for Sasquatch e.t al.: I believe Jeff wants to cross from the west side of Dorset St. to the east side at Songbird Lane. His alternatives are: 1. to walk south up to Swift St. to cross at that signalized intersection, perhaps a 5 or 10 minute walk, and then back north again on the east side, or 2. he could walk north IN THE STREET on the west side of Dorset to the short section of sidewalk just before the intersection at Kennedy Drive where there are crosswalks. Not very amenable choices.

Roy's description of the problem is correct. Coming from Songbird there is no way to go North on Dorset (toward the schools) without crossing here. I'm not the only one that crosses here, kids cross here to go to/from school, joggers, bicycle commuters and anybody headed to Dorset Park cross here all the time.

I find it odd that the intersection is designed in such a way that it won't allow the reaction time required for a car to deal with a cross-walk but we expect the cars will react to a person crossing the street without the benefit of a crosswalk?

Didn't somebody realize people would cross here when bike paths were built on both sides of the Dorset and the one west side of the road abruptly ends.

If there is sufficient space for a separate path going north along the west side of Dorset Street, this would help alleviate the problem for anyone going north under the interstate. I cross here all the time on both foot and bike, and if the traffic is really bad, I do ride on the sidewalk up to Swift St and cross there.

There is a crosswalk and signal at the corner of Dorset and Swift - it's less than 500 meters.
