Description
The old concrete retaining wall which runs along the rear of 409 Madison's parking lot is cracking, buckling, and looks like it could collapse.
The retaining wall runs along the edge of the building's parking lot in Garden Alley, beginning right after the last garage on the left.
It hasn't been maintained in decades, large tree roots are making the wall bulge outward. This was reported via the app a couple of years ago and, supposedly, the owners were cited. However nothing was done and the condition has gotten worse. Several large cracks have appeared in the wall and it's buckling out further in multiple spots.
If it gives way, it could take down several large trees which could fall on the garages opposite it or, worse yet, it could take down the utility pole and affect phone, electrical and/or cable/internet to houses here. It could also undermine the apartment building's fence and parking lot and, possibly, damage the adjacent garage.
Angle of the buckling is more obvious in person than the attached picture.
Several additional photos to follow.
