Description
The pedestrian crosswalk at the intersection of Mansfield and Sachem is in need of repainting and there is currently no signage in that location alerting motorists that the crosswalk exists.
All of the pedestrian traffic that crosses at this intersection also crosses the Winchester and Sachem where an automobile hit a pedestrian earlier this week.
Seeing that the Mansfield and Sachem crosswalk is a busy as the Winchester and Sachem crosswalk it would be prudent to have all of the same signage at both intersections.
To that end a “Yield to Pedestrians in Crosswalk” sign and a “Yellow Pedestrian Crossing” sign should be installed at this intersection, (see attached photo’s).
A Stop sign should also be installed on Sachem so that motorists turning right onto Mansfield are required to stop before proceeding across the pedestrian crosswalk.
Taking these corrective actions will greatly improve pedestrian safety.
