Description

Dear Mr. Fixer,

After contacting the people in charge of trees in the city about the dying trees at 2150 Bloor St. West, I've basically come up against a brick wall. Below is the email that I initially sent them.

Two years ago I contacted the city tree department to let them know that the pine trees at 2150 Bloor W. were under stress because all the earth between the sidewalk and the pharmacy building was covered over in cement. There was no access to any type of water from anywhere other than underground. Of course, I was not contacted and nothing was done.
This year, all the cement was dug up between the tree planter boxes and the building which seemed to go on for months. I noticed that the two trees were actually dying this time so I contacted 311 and the woman told me an inspector would be sent out within a two month period (which will be too late to save these poor trees.) The reference # for the inspection is 1688602.
I’m so annoyed that nothing was initially done and now that supposedly a second work permit was issued to dig up half the rooting system of the trees is beyond me. Does anyone care about, inspect or do anything to actually save these trees?
Just so you know, I’m sending the same photos and a good portion of this letter to The Fixer section of the Toronto Star. Perhaps they will have more clout than me in getting my issue addressed about these dying trees.

Regards,

David Miller

Below is the response I had from the tree department.

As previously mentioned it is the responsibility of the owner/developer to deal with these issues. He has applied but is still working through with his plans for the site.

It is unfortunate, that there has been such a delay in both removing and replacing these trees by the owner. I will have the site inspect to review what is happening.

These responses are totally unacceptable and I'm hoping you can help in trying to save these two wonderful trees. Included are photos showing the location and the extent of the damage. If you can do anything to help, I would be most grateful.

David Miller (not the former mayor)
